Big— Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, September 3,1983 4-H BY ROBIN PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent KUTZTOWN - The 38th Annual Southeast District 4-H Dairy Show was held August 28 at the Kutztown Fairgrounds. Over 125 4-H members from the eight Southeastern Pennsylvania Counties, who had won at the local level, competed here for a blue ribbon and qualification to go on to the state show in Harrisburg. The Holstein breed comprised the majority of entries with 86 registered. Jerseys with 33 entries and Brown Swiss with 27 entries followed. All breeds were represented. J. Mowery Frey, Holstein breeder from Lancaster, judged the Holstein classes while Neil Bowen, Holstein breeder from Wellsboro judged Ayrshires, Brown Swiss, Guernseys, Jerseys, and Milking Shorthorns. Fitting and Showmanship judges were Don Fowler, Fulton County Ex tension Agent; Jacob Guffey, Bradford County Extension Agent; and John Smith, retired York County Extension Agent. Fitting and Showing was Judged during the course of the show and the outstanding participants were given Master Fitter and/or Master Showman awards. This event was sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Offices of Berks, Bucks, Chester, Lehigh, Monroe, Montgomery, Nor thampton, and Schuylkill counties along with the Cooperative Ex tension Service of Penn State. Taking top honors in the Holstein classes was the 5 year old entry of Ryan Worthington, Doylestown. Curley-Hill King Bobbie, sired by Life-O-Riley Marquis King, received the nod for Senior Champion and then went on to the Grand Championship, over the Reserve Senior Champion and Reserve Grand Champion, LoWoe Kit Builder Jerri. “Jerri” shown and owned by Darlene Buckman, Perkasie, Bucks County, took first place in the Senior two year old class. Last year’s Junior Cham pion of this same show, “Jerri” is sired by Tlho Kit Builder and was bred by Warren E. Buckman, Jr. Junior Champion went to Cathleen J. OhUnger and her Senior Yearling, Reu-Mel Farms Sexation Heather. Sired by Ocean- View Sexation and bred by Reu- Hel Farms, Inc., “Heather” has been catching the Judges eye throughout this year as Cathleen and her parents, Elwood and Ruth Ohlingler, Rl, Mohrsville, move from show to show. Reserve Junior Champion went to the entry of Brian Dietrich, New Tripoli, with his Senior Yearling, Lynnacres Sooner Kitty. In the Guernsey Show, Grand Champion honors went to Jon A. Zollers with his five year old, Foxie Spring Falcon Lady. “Lady”, also the Grand Champion at the Kimberton Fair, and the Kutztown Fair, was shown by Sherri Zollers since her brother is in Sweden on the Rotary Exchange program. Reserve Championship honors went to Susan Hollenbach and her three year old, Almira of Montview Farm. Thirteen-yeaoold Susan is the daugther of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hollenbach, Shartlesville, and also showed her Senior Yearling, Blue Mountain View Almond to the Junior Championship in the Guernsey Show. The Reserve Junior Champion rosette went to the Senior calf, Walnut Lane Mar Angle, shown by Rebecca Snyder, also from Berks County. In the Jersey Show the Grand Champion ribbons went to Patricia Dreisbach, R 3, Hamburg, and her Senior two year old entry, Wilderness Samson Silk. Sired by Gramhli Leader Sophia Samson and appraised “Very Good” - 87, as a two year old, “Silk” also helped her owner-breeder to receive top honors in showing and fitting. The Reserve Grand Champion honors went to Dusty Star of Clearview, owned by Elizabeth Jenkins of Chester County. Junior Champions m the Jersey show were Top-O-Hill Special Marshmellow, shown by Helen McCahon of Chester County, with Faithful Royal Candy of SSF, shown by Anna Uhlman, Chester County taking the Reserve honors. Ayrshire champions came from Berks County with the In termediate calf, Conbella H.C. Petulia, shown by Mark Price, Douglassville, taking the Junior Championship and going on to receive the Judges nod for the Grand Championship ribbon. This is 15 year old Marie’s first year to show Ayrshires and he was very pleased to receive this honor after taking the reserve honors at the recent Kutztown Pair. “Petulia” also earned her owner the Master Fitter and Master Showman awards. Sired by Sycamore Meade H. Champ, “Petulia” was bred by Charles Gable, Elverson, and was placed Grand Champion over the older entries taking the reserve honors The Reserve Junior Champion and the Reserve Grand Champion went to Pa Boots Acres Miss Priscilla, a senior yearling shown by Christine Dietrich, Hamburg. Stating that she and Mark Just “switched places” from the Kutztown Fair, 15-year-old Christine also received showing and fitting awards on her owner breeder entry. The Ayrshire Senior Champion rosette went to the 5-year-old entry of Kathleen Kopistecki and Michele Christman with her Junior two year old took the Reserve Senior Champion ribbon. The Grand Champion in the Brown Swiss breed went to D N Delegate Dainty, a five-year-old owned by Kathleen Kopistecki, Montgomery County. “Dainty” was also named as “Best Udder” and her owner also earned the Master Fitter and Master Showman Award. Named °*a. • a the Grand Champion Brown Swiss at the Pennsylvania Farm Show for the last two years, Kathleen stated that she is looking forward to continuing to show “Dainty”. Reserve honors went to Bryan Urmy and his four year old, Buzzing Acres Rulia. The Junior Championship and Reserve ribbons were won by the Daubert siblings of Schuylkill County. Anne Daubert, the 1962 Swiss Miss, took the Championship with her Senior Yearling, Wind Mill Shining Caroline and her brother, Allen, took the Reserve honors with his Semor Yearling, Wind Mill Shining Mindy. Both heifers are sired by Wind Mill Alaric Shine, a home-bred bull from the Daubert’s Wind Mill Farm, Pine Grove. The Milking Shorthorn breed was represented by John P. Lmd strom’s entry, Pinesedge Classic Ruby, bred by Frederick Yoder. Coming from Lehigh County, John earned a Master Fitter award for his entry.
