Tammy Burruss wins Cumberland 4-H swine roundup BY BETH HEKMJNGER Staff Correspondent CARLISLE The Cumberland County 4-H Swine dub members closed another year with the completion of the county round-up and the sale of their hogs at the Carlisle Livestock Market. Bringing the top price for the evening sale was Tammy Burruss' Grand Champion hog of the 4-H Round-up. Buying the medium weight hog of 235 pounds was Ezra Good,of Hatfield. Packing. Good purchased the Grand Champion for $3.74 a pound. Breeder of the Grand Champion hog was Kenneth Ketterer, of Bourbon Springs Farm, Newville. The Reserve Champion hog owned by Darin Heckendom was sold for $2.50 a pound to Kahler’s Pine Tree Inn. The Reserve Champion was also a medium weight hog. Ezra Good, of Hatfield, once fegain nodded a successful bid and purchased the Champion JPen of the 4-H show from Jessica Shetron. This Champion Pen was purchased for (1.45 a pound. The Champion Lightweight owned by Brad Fickes went to Hatfield for the price of 76 cents. The Lightweight Champion weighed in at 220 pounds. Kim Sheaffer claimed the titles of Champion Heavyweight and Reserve Heavyweight, with the Champion weighing in at a total of 275 pounds. Bardale Holstein Farm, of Slurieysburg, closed the bidding on the Champion Heavyweight, buying the hog for 87 cents a pounds. Kim Sheaffer also collected die Reserve Champion ribbon for her pen of 2 hogs. Fifty-one lots were sold at the 1988 Cumberland County 4-H Swine Sale bringing the sale average to 72 cents per pound. ) Prior to the Market, hog classes Tind sale, all the 4-H'ers par ticipated in a Fitting and Showmanship competition. In the junior division, Kim Warner claimed the Champion Fitter award, while Stacy Suffel showed her hog mto the Champion Showmanship slot. Winning the Reserve Champion Fitter award was Rogert Finkenbmder and the Reserve Champion Showman went to Jim Hair. Kim Sheaffer captured the In termediate division Champion Fitter award while the In termediate Champion Showman title went to Tammy Bumiss.
