Poultry Thursday, August 11 Report supplied by VSDA Market Comment: Prices higher. Offerings of live remain light and just adequate for full schedule. Canner pack movement is fairly good; however, most traders note the reluctance to reach out for finished porduct with prices gradually creeping upward. Undertone is steady to fully steady. Prices Paid at Farm: Light Type Hens: 11-11*4, mostly F. 0.8. Plant: 12*4-13*4, mostly 12*2. ± 6 eggs = Profit/Loss According to Waymon Halbrook, University of Arkansas Agricultural Economist, in todays poultry economy the difference between losing and making money on your flock could be in the last Vz dozen eggs each hen in your house produces. DeKalb layers are consistently leading the competition in total profit performance which includes egg numbers. What are you basing your next pullet chide order on? A penny or two savings on chide cost? OR 25 c per pullet hexised on egg income? That’s $15,000 on a 60.000 bird house. YOU BE THE JUDGE! Water'd CHICKS, INC. Advance interest has improved in a few quarters, but plants have had to take lower values in order to insure these advanced sales. Farts are ample overall and discounting is fairly widespread today. Overall slaughter is moderate and Imf supplies are at least adequate. Weights remain lighter than desired in most quarters. Underton is weak. Today’s L.T.L. asking prices are less than on U.S. Grade A at 55-59 cents, with excess loads selling below 80'cents for prompt delivery. Estimated slaughter of broiler fryers in Delmarva (000).
