at Lebanon Area Fair Balmer wins supremely in BY TRISH WILLIAMS LEBANON Daryl Balmer, of Lebanon, masterfully showed his Holsteins Tuesday through the showring at the Lebanon Area Fair. During the course of the show, Balmer earned several firsts and five championship titles, in cluding the Supreme Champion overall breeds. Balmer, a member of the Ann ville-Cleona Little Dutchmen FFA chapter, won the Sumpreme Champion with what Judge John Marchezak called a "young looking 4-year-old,” Pansy EM Ivan-OC. Champion overall breeds, with this 4-year-old. Presenting Daryl with the Grand Champion trophy is Todd Fies, Lebanon County FFA president Champion for the Ayrshire breed. On the halter of the 4-H champ is Larry Gross. Dana Moyer of the Eico 4-H Dairy Club, received both the Grand and the Reserve Grand Champion in the Jersey breed. Dana’s younger sister poses with the reserve. Dana displays her Grand Champ trophy. Judge Marchezak is a dairyman from Washington County. Mar chezak m partnership with his son own two registered herds. Never Best is the name of the Mar chezak’s 150 registered Holsteins, and the 70 registered Guernseys have the Twin Brook Farm name. Marchezak did an excellent job of giving concise yet very thorough reasons. The judge also took the time in ,each class to speak to the FFA and 4-H exhibitors in dividually, giving them pointers on what they can improve on, or why their animal placed as she did. Overall the show proved to be a good learning experience for the participants. Marchezak, like myself, said he was very impressed with the number of high quality dairy cattle being exhibited in this 4-H and FFA show. Youth leader and Lebanon County FFA president, Todd Fies presented winning exhibitors in the FFA division with ribbons and trophies. Doing the presentation honors for the 4-H Show was Lebanon County’s attractive Dairy Princess Ann Burkholder. Miss Burkholder presented David Lentz of Lebanon with the Grand Champion trophy for the Holstein breed in the 4-H division. David is 11 years old and has been showing for three years. Ke is a member of the Noriebco Dairy Club, and already has three cows and five heifers as 4-H projects. The color breeds, with the ex ception of the Guernseys, made a very strong showing Tuesday. In the Ayrshire breed. Heather Hemley of Lebanon, won both the 4-H and the FFA Grand Champion awards. Heather is Pennsylvania’s 1983 Outstanding Ayrshire Girl and is very active in both FFA and 4-H work. A brother sister team, Gary and Judy Mase, from Meadow Hill Farm of Lebanon, paraded their strong and stylish Swiss cattle before Judge Marchezak to cap ture the Grands. Gary a member of the Little Dutchmen chapter won in the KFA division. Judy, a member of the NoSoAnn Dairy Club won the Grand in the 4-H division. Dana Moyer, an 11 year old member of the Elco Dairy Club won both the Grand and Keserve Grand Champion in the Jersey breed, 4-H division. ' And in a similar fashion, Bryan Blatt, of Annville took both Grand and Keserve Grand Champion with two of his mature Jersey cows. The first three winners in each class division are listed below.
