I YORK The York and Adams County Extension Offices will conduct a seminar dealing with weed control in set aside acres and after small gram harvest. The twilight, open an- meeting will be held Tuesday, August 2, at 7 p.m. at the York County 4-H Center in Bair. The event is being organized by William Steenwyk and William Murray, Penn State Agricultural Weed seminar on Aug . 2 Agents in York and Adams Counties respectively. Speakers will include specialists from the University and Velsicol Chemical Company, who is co-sponsoring the activity. According to Steenwyk, “Far mers have an excellent op portunity to control tough perennial weeds such as Canada Thistle, Bindweed, Hemp Dogbane, and others. On set aside lands where no cover crop is growing, these can be effectively controlled with today’s her bicides.” However, the agent expresses concern that, “Failure to properly control weeds and allowing them to go to seed will result in many costly weed problems in the years ahead. ” Those interested in attending should contact the York or Adams County Extension Office to pre register. WESTFORD - Mr. and Mrs. Ed Doeberiener and family, of Westford, were this year’s host for the annual Crawford County Holstein Club picnic. The affair was attended by 130 Holstein breeders and their families.
