COUDERSPORT - Luke
Crossley, 15, of Coudersport, ROl,
has been named the state electric
contest winner in the 1983 4-H
National Awards program.
He will receive a paid trip to the
National 4-H Congr' obe held in
Chicago, Novemt 27 through
December I. f ukt also eligible
to compete ii» jonr or one of the
six $l,OOO .chi ships. The

poration at Pittsburgh, Pa.
Carroll L. Howes, associate 4-H
youth program director at Penn
sylvania State University, said
Luke was chosen on the basis of
this 4-H project work, leadership
abilities, and participation in
county and state activities. Luke
was chosen from over 100,000
youths who annually take part m
Crossley named contest winner
the Extension Service educational
4-H program.
A Son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel M.
Crossley, 111, Luke will be a

sophomore at Coudersport Junior-
Senior High School this fall. He has
been a 4-H member for eight years.
As a member of the Sparks 4-H
dub, Luke has served as game
leader, song leader, secretary, and
president. He has also served as
news reporter for his county
council. Luke’s project have in
cluded airplanes, sheep, han
dyman, gardening, foods, small
engines, backyard poultry,
leadership, electric and vegetable
gardening.
On the county level, Luke has
participated in 4-H camp, 4-H
Roundup, Achievement Night, 4-H
Kick-off parties, officers’ training,
4-H Livestock auction, fund raising
sales, and the Leaders and
Bankers Dinner.
Regionally, he has taken part in
4-H camp for three years and Pre-

mer he will be attending

the nation's capital.

Of her ability to get around by
herself, she said, “I can come and
go as I please. I’m freer than I was
when I had the responsibilites of a
family.”
In her spare time, Mrs. Moore
makes braided rugs. Her 48th rug
was just completed and picked up
by the lucky recipient last week.
Her rugs are all over the
country. They are owned by

Commenting on the value of the
4-H education program, Luke said,
“4-H has contributed to my life by
helping me understand govern
ment. 4-H has helped me to see new
places and things and to meed new
people. It has also shown me what 1
can and can’t do.”

heard of her talents and com
missioned her to make rugs for
them.
What’s her secret for her good
health and active life?
“I don’t worry. I live one day at a
time. I take what comes, and
whatever I have to do I do,” Mrs.
Moore said.
Does the philosophy work?
Apparently so, as Mrs. Moore
claimed, “1 don’t even know what
a headache feels like.”
