A26—Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, Inly 16,1983 Kruegers tops at BY LAURA ENGLAND CENTRE HALL - Edlyns Sapphire Princess 2930, a heifer owned by the Lavern and Greg Krueger families, West Grove, was selected grand champion junior heifer and overall grand champion at the first Pennsylvania Angus Association Breeders Show. Sired by PS Power Play, the heifer was chosen by judge David Sleigh of Ontario, Canada, from a field of 78 entries. Reserve grand champion heifer honors went to HF Queen Mother 267, owned by Huntington Farm, Alexandria, and sired by PS Mastermind. Receiving reserve grand champion junior honors was a heifer owned by Rishels Edlyn Farm and Genetics Unlimited, West Grove. The heifer, named Edlyns Lady Evelyn 201, was sired by PS Power Paly. The grand champion bull title was won by Kruegers Foolish Pride, owned by Fred Frey and Sons and the Greg Krueger Family, West Grove. The reserve honors went to PS Super Play, owned by Mark J. Barnett, Quamby, Hagly, Tasmania; Mrs. L.K. Kerr, Tibooburra Angus, Victoria Australia; and Penn State University. Two Continental daughters took the champion and reserve champion bred and owned junior heifer titles. Guy McKean, Mercer, and his heifer MB Collie Con won the champion title. Cathy Shive, Seven Valleys, and her heifer, SAF Queen Dolly 429 sired by PS Power Play, won the junior show title. Reserve junior honors went to a heifer owned by Fritz Frey of Quarryville. Named Blackbird of Gttrick 3P, the heifer was sired by Gallaghers powerful. The Angus Association Show, with both heifer and bull classes, was part of a two-day event celebrating the 100th birthday of the American Angus Association. The celebration, held at the Centre County Grange Fairgrounds in Centre Hall, included held day activities, a judging contest and a junior showmanship contest. The judging contest, open for all ages, was divided into five categories.- Winning the men’s division was Jim Eisehower York County. The women’s winner was Dianne Shive, York County. Tim Kinsley, York, was the boy’s winner, and Carolyn Zyzo of Maryland took the girls title. Zyzo was also named the high individual overall. The team competition was won by Centre County 111. Team members were Scott Hazlett, Lon Cash and Kerry Long. Chester Hughes, Pa. Angus Association secretary, said he was pleased with the overall show participation and is looking for ward to net year’s 2nd annual show. 1983 Pa.
