Luella, die daughter of Donald Smith of R 2 Martinsburg, was chosen from among three young women competing for the title of Blair County Dairy Princess. Serving as an alternate will be Julie Kensinger, 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Kensinger of Rl Roaring Spring. Alice Smith, 17, of'Rl Tyrone was also selected as an alternate. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Revere Smith. Luella Smith’s family operates two farms outside of Martinsburg. The senior at Central High School helps when needed on the two far ms of 160 acres and 170 acres. The family milks 90 Holsteins and have 110 heifers and calves. Luella has four brothers and three sisters, some of whom work the family farm. The new princess plans to continue promoting the dairy in dustry as her sister Lottie did 11 years ago as Blair County dairy princess. She is looking forward to making the public aware of the wholesomeness of dairy products. Luella will be visiting school children, banquets, fairs aiid parades promoting the industry. A high school cheerleader, Luella also stays fit by marching in the high school band and playing on the volleyball team. She is a member of the student council, national honor society and St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. The young princess has also completed a course at the Barbizon School of Modeling. Miss Kensinger is a senior at Central High School, where she is a member of the drama dub. She is secretary of the Central Cove FPA Chapter, an active member of the dairy judging team, 4-H and St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church. Selected as the 1982 Blair County Outstanding Senior Girl, alternate Alice Smith has carried 4-H projects hi cooking, sewing, photography, pet care and small engines. She is a member of the 4- H dairy club and has participated in the Penn State dairy judging contest and Pennsylvania Holstein Association judging competition. Last year’s Dairy Princess Kimberly Hoover relinquished her crown as she thanked the crowd of over 300, including the dairy promotion committee, local dairy farmers, and her family. She reflected on her activities over the past year, stating that the greatest thing she has ever done is represent area farmers.
