Dow supports Center
MIDLAND, Mich. Dow
Chemical has announced its award
of a $50,000 grant to accelerate
development of the Conservation
Tillage Information Center.
A Dow spokesman said the grant
was intended to maintain the
Center’s momentum m growth,
draw wider attention to the Center
and stimulate greater interest in
conservation tillage.
Conservation tillage is defined as
those farming methods that main
tain adequate plant cover on the
land to conserve soil and water
while enhancing the economic
vitality of agriculture.
“The Center is at a particularly
crucial stage,” according to
Kichard Foell, chairman of the
Center’s Executive Committee.
"We discovered that the Center
ran the risk of being overwhelmed
by success.

for Agriculture Kay Hussell said,

have moved at an astonishing rate
for a new group like this one. The
Center clearly merits funding,
which is essential for it to maintain
momentum and credibility.
"We see the Center as the only
national focal point for information
on conservation tillage practices."

associations, especially the
National Association of Con
servation Districts, founded the
