She is a senior at State wm wmsv aa m Order No. 4 Base Milk Price $13.68 For May ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Middle Atlantic Order Market Ad ministrator Joseph D. Shine on June 9 announced a May 1983 base milk price of $13.68 per hundred weight and an excess milk price of $12.27. The weighted average May price is $13.66 and the butterfat differential for the month is 16.9 cents. The base milk price was down 14 cents from the previous month but is 8 cents higher than last May. The advertising withholding rate, which is deducted from the base and excess milk prices but not the weighted average price, was 14 cents a hundred-weight. A total of $760.8 thousand was deducted for advertising in May, a slight in crease from last year. The gross value of May producer milk was $74.2 million, compared to $73.4 million last year. The tran sportation credit on Class II milk, which was effective for the entire month of May, totaled $203,388.80. Mr. Shine said that producer receipts totaled 543.5 million pounds during May, an increase of only 49 thousand pounds or 0.01 percent from last May. The average daily delivery per producer increased 48 pounds or 2.00 percent from May 1982. Class I producer milk totaled 234.7 million pounds and accounted for 43.19 percent of total producer milk receipts during the month, up substantially from the 41.00 per cent Class I utilization last May. Base milk accounted for 88.83 percent of total producer milk receipts in May compared to 87.25 percent a year ago. The average butterfat test of producer milk was 3.56 percent in May compard to 3.54 percent a year earlier. Middle Atlantic Order pool handlers reported Class I in-area milk sales of 198.2 million pounds during May, an increase of 4.7 million pounds of 2.3 percent over a year earlier. ITus price is unchanged from June’s price but is 8 cents higher than last July’s Class I price. Order No. 4 prices are announced for milk testing 3.5 percent but terfat f.o.b. plants located within 55 miles of Philadelphia, PA and also within 75 miles from the nearer of Washington, DC or Baltimore, MD. There is also a 6- cent direct-delivery differential applicable to producer milk received at plants located within 55 miles of Philadelphia. Mr. Shine announced a Class II milk price of $12.41 per hun dredweight for May 1983 and a butterfat differential of 16.9 cents for the month. The May Class n price is down seasonally 3 cents from April, while the butterfat differential is unchanged. These class prices are based on the May 1983 Minnesota-Wisconsin manufacturing milk price of $12.51 per hundredweight at a 3.5 percent butterfat content. This year's alternate is Elizabeth (Beth) Amy Heald, age 17, daughter of William and Judith Heald, Rl, Spring Mills. Betsy and Beth will be active at the Nittany Mall Milk Promotion, June 16-18. They will be welcoming Jolene Snyder, Pa. State Dairy Princess, on Friday, June 17, who will be assisting them at the Nittany Mall. Betsy was presented an award for the best presentation at the pageant. Other contestants for the pageant were Laud Ann Hall, 16, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Charles B. Hall, Rl, Julian; and Karen Houser, 18, daughter of Jay H. and Mary E. Houser, R 2, Spring Mills. The judges for the pageant were Jeanne Bowen from Wellsboro, former coordinator for the Penn sylvania State Dairy Princess; Robert Pardoe from Milton, chairman for the SUN Area Dairy Princess Committee; and Wanda Yoder from Reedsville, treasurer of the Mifflin County Dairy Promotion Council.
