Analyze your forage supplies so you know the quality you have on hand. This will help you utilize them to best advantage. For hay, you can do this as soon as the bales dry down. For haylage, sample several loads at filling time, being careful to preserve the moisture content of the sample. If the silage juices or heats excessively, you may want to re-check the analysis when you feed it out. Sampling at harvest time, or as soon as hay bales dry down, gives you the opportunity of having a feeding program in your hands ready to use when you “hit” that change of forage. That’s when you need it - not 4 weeks later when you have hit another new supply! A well thought out forage production, harvesting, storage and feeding program can pay big dividens. It take some planning, but it’s worth the effort. vP Dairy Pipeline o. w % f- „v<* €
