B4—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 19,1983 Ayrshire herd (Continued from Page B 2) 400 acres, raising most of their own crops, It's not hard to believe Ann when she says she has little time for additional activities. She used to be active in local fairs, and served on their dairy committees, but has given up showing because, “We don’t have enough help and it is very time consuming.” Her son shows some animals at Unlonville Fair and her grandchildren show. She is an avid stamp collector - a hobby started in her youth - and she does a lot of corresponding with friends across the United States and abroad. But when she has a few spare minutes she says, “I like to scour records. That’s fun. Ann and her husband have developed this well-known herd of registered Ayrshires, It’s more fun tnan a movie. It is never dull.” Two years ago Ann discovered a fire in her barn which could have been disastrous. By carrying out burning bales and cutting out burning beams, the barn was saved, something for which 'Ann will always be grateful. ‘‘All I ever lived for was to have a good herd of Ayrshires. My husband always called, me a dreamer, saying I was on a dream and he couldn’t get me off. But my dad was a dreamer so I guess it comes naturally.” For Ann, the dreaming paid off, and now she is living that dream, caring for her outstanding herd of Ayrshires. - » jHMr 'V M\\ '*% * Ji *7 \ /< * \ LITITZ The Warwick Young Farmers will be holding a Tractor and Farm Machinery maintenance program on Monday.
