UNIVERSITY PARK - Linda Siegel, Lebanon County 4-H agent on the Penn State Extension Service staff, has been named recipient of the first Blue Ribbon Achievement Award presented by the Pennsylvania Association of Extension 4-H Agents. The award was established to recognize outstanding educational 4-H programming by a member of the Extension Service staff. According to Ellen Harkleroad, Perry County 4-H agent and awards committee chairwoman. Mrs. Siegel assisted 4-H leaders in establishing systems to improve programs and increase volunteer involvement. She also was in strumental in developing a Lebanon County 4-H program council which dealt with such concerns as leadership develop ment, program evaluation, finance, recognition, and promotion. The award recipient developed innovative leader training methods including an organizational notebook, leader newsletter, and kitchen con ferences . Sixty-seven county 4-H leaders took part in her series of “Dig into Leadership” training workshops. Mrs. Siegel also assisted in organizing four 4-H clubs for handicapped youths. Many of these boys and girls were “main streamed” into existing 4-H clubs and county programs. A native of Selinsgrove, Mrs. Siegel has been a member of the Penn State staff since 1979.
