Cobb opens quality lab
CONCORD, Mass.—Cobb, Inc., a
leader in the poultry industry,
recently opened a new Quality
Assurance Laboratory near its
international headquarters in
Concord, Mass.
The new lab is now located
within a 40-mile radius of the
firm’s production flocks. The
primary purpose of the lab is to
maintain the health of the Cobb’s
pedigree lines in order to ensure a
quality product for its customers.
The Cobb lab was previously based
in Milton, N.H.
“Moving the lab to a more
central location has increased our
efficiency, improved com
munication between management
and research personnel, and
enhanced our disease surveillance
and quality control programs,”
states Del Meyer, D.V.M., the lab’s
quality control and technical
services manager.

building, the streamlined lab

ITHACA, N.Y. - “Report
cards” have been issued for the 80
registered bulls at the conclusion
of the first 28-day weigh period of
the New York Bull Test. The
overall average daily gain for the
80 bulls for the “first marking
period” was 3.28 pounds.
The 33 Angus bulls led the test
group with an overall average
daily gain of 3.55 pounds. Close
behind were three Shorthorn bulls
with an average daily gain of 3.51
pounds. The eleven Simmental
bulls had an average daily gain of
3.10 pounds. The average daily
gain for the nine Charolais bulls
FARM SHOW-The bay com
petition at the 1983 Farm Show
resulted in blue ribbons for two
Lycoming County Dairy farms.
Lester and Jan Paulbamus,
Cogan Station, and Chris and Mark
Metzger, Linden Hills Farm,
Linden, won blue ribbons in three
classes of hay partially field-cured
plus hay preservative. Paulbamus’
sample of first cutting alfalfa and
Metzger’s samples of later cutting
alfalfa and mixed hay consisting of
more than 50% legumes, were all
treated with Aroma-Pep Forage
Conditioner and Flavorizer.
HUGHSON, Cal.—Albert J.
Shulusky 111, a five-year veteran of
the Carnation Genetics marketing
team, has been picked as the
company’s new director of
marketing.
Shulusky, who took office Jan. 1,
had been a district sales-manager
with the company since 1977. He
has served a territory that includes
southwestern New York,
Massachusetts, Rhode Island,
Connecticut, Maine and New

and the eighteen Polled Hereford
bulls was 3.07 pounds. The average
daily gain for the three Red Angus
bulls was 2.97 pounds and for the
one Salers bull, 1.96 pounds. A
Simmental bull enrolled by Linden
Farms of LaGrangeviQe leads the
bulls on test with an average daily
gain of 5.19 pounds for the first 28-
day period.
The 1982-83 Bull Test program is
jointly sponsored by the New York
Beef Cattlemen’s Association,
Cooperative Extension, the State
Department of Agriculture and
Markets and the animal science

raised Holstein dairy
replacements, since 1971.

The performance testing
program is designed to measure
the genetic merit of potential herd
sires and identifies those bulls that
are genetically superior in the
efficient production of red meat.
Those bulls who meet certification
standards at the conclusion of the
test will be offered at the Bull Test
Sale May 6 at Ithaca.
