Breezeview Suffolks breeze through Farm Show FARM SHOW As the Farm Show’s Suffolk competition paraded in the small arena, Sunday, judge Leroy Boyd kept his eye on a Chester County entry that had, “a tremendous head and a lot of stretch to him.” Soon afterwards, judge Boyd tagged Bill MacCauley’s ram lamb, “Nightrider,” Grand Champion Ram. Before the competition ended, MacCauley’s Breezeview Farm prefix claimed another champion. A member of Octoraro FFA, MacCauley collected the Reserve Champion Ewe rosette with yearling ewe, “Lady Jane." John and Dianne Conaway, showing for Pine Haven Farm of Newville led their Walking Tall grandson to a Reserve Champion Ram slot. The ram lamb, dubbed “Dexter,” was one of 12 animals the Conaways hauled from their 60- ewe Cumberland County flock. The flock includes both Suffolks and Rambouillets. York breeder Paul Leader secured a 1983 Farm Show -'hampion when his spring ewe mb notched a Grand Champion n. According to Steven Ebersole, 10 shows and handles Leader’s ,ow string during competition, ,e lamb uas appeared at several <iows throughout the season in luding, Sussex Co., N.J., Carlisle, <ILE, York and Montgomery Co. Suffolk Assn . elects officers FARM SHOW The Penn sylvania Suffolk Sheep Association held its annual meeting on Sunday, Jan. 9 during the 1983 Penn sylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg. The Association elected its 1983 officers and ap proved a motion to support Suffolk rams entered in the 1983 Ram Performance Evaluation Test. Ford A. Cooper of R 2, Reynoldsville, Jefferson County, was elected president and William McCauley of Atgien, Chester County, was elected vice president of the Association. George Hunter of R 2, Stoneboro, Mercer County, was elected secretary-treasurer. Hunter and John Conoway of Rl, Newville, Cumberland County, were elected to three-year terms as members of the board of directors for the association. The group voted to award |5O cash prizes for all Suffolk rams entered in the 1963 Performance Tests for rams at the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Meat Animal Evaluation Center in State College. The Performance Testing Program is designed to assist breeders and buyers in identifying top quality sires to improve breeding in the sheep industry. I
