OUR READERS WRITE, AND OTHER OPINIONS ■ (Continued from Page Al 2) per tree, that’s a whopping $25,000. That’s a high price we farmers and landowners pay so that the sportsmen and Game Commission can freeload on us for fun. They are freeloaders just as bums on the street are freeloaders. No one would accept bums to demand the housewife to have the pantries and kitchens ready and available so that they can feast anytime, but the sportsmen. Game Commission and poachers do. I say that it is the most unjust, unconstitutional, unfair form of taxation that is imposed on the landowner and farmer that there ever was to force us to raise and feed the deer, bear, and all the game. It’s time the lawmakers stop that. In other countries, farmers and landowners get a big share of the license money for raising the game. Not here in Pennsylvania. In fact-the Game Commission has had the guts to press for legislation to make it illegal for farmers to disturb game cover or groundhog holes on their own farms; and to father harass farmers and fine and jail those who destroy game that destroys their crops. In fact the farmers are treated like pigs by them. I know first-hand because I was shot at and cattle and livestock were shot and killed in the past. The Game Commission never did a thing. It’s time the Game Commission pay the farmers and landowners most of that license money for raising the game; and it’s time that they stick their noses out of the farmer’s business and let him reduce or eliminate the game as he sees fit. There are more deer in Penn sylvania than there are livestock and people in many countries. That’s insanity. If the Game Commission will not bend, then abolish it and let the Department of Agriculture take over. The days any other fanner. Those farmers of the Game Commission and such who have cover-free and plowed free-loading foolishness must not, U P farms have the least trouble go on any further. It’s too costly with hunters. The unassuming Mennonites, for the first time in Lancaster County, are becoming visible and occasionally vocal opponents of this threat to their heritage. Change is a part of all our lives, and, is often difficult. The responsibility of becoming an adult when yet a boy was so simple and uncomplicated; to witness the change of one’s neighborhood as houses and industry alter forever the landscape of yesterday.
