D34—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, December 11, 1982 Wayne DHIA completes HONESDALE - The 56th annual meeting of the Wayne County Dairy Herd Improvement Association recently was held at the Pleasant Valley Grange Hall with 150 attending. The association completed the testing year October 1 with an average production of 14,801 pounds of milk and 546 pounds of butterfat per cow. There was an average number of 5,013 cows enrolled during the year, the largest number of cows ever enrolled during 56 years of testing. Kevin Burleigh, Pleasant Mount, was recognized for having the highest producing herd with a production level of 20,737 pounds of milk and 768 pounds of butterfat per cow. Rowe Brothers, Honesdale were honored for having the cow with the highest lifetime production record. The High Cow in Butterfat Award went to James Slocum, Susquehanna as a result of a record completed by “Carla” with 24,149 pounds of milk and 1092 pounds of butterfat. Alton Olver, Honesdale, and Buckingham Dairies, Honesdale, were both awarded the High Quality Milk Award, which is based on the lowest average somatic cell count for the year.
