Al2— Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, Octahar 16,18i2 OUR READERS WRITE, AND OTHER OPINIONS No one cares Why does the news coverage of the 4-H State Horse Show contain only the first place winners? You ignored the children who received Reserve Champion in all 33 per formance classes and have done all the others who placed up to eighth place a feeling that no one cares about their placings. We rely on your paper to print complete results. Mrs. Irene Brown Waynesboro, Pa. Only listed first I know some 4-H members from Cumberland and Dauphin counties received placings at the 4-H State Horse Show but you only listed first place winners. We think your paper should give results up to sixth place. Who is the idiot who reported on the 4-H State Horse Show and who did not give complete results? The 4-H provides complete results to the papers who request them. The State Office said your reporter doesn’t bother getting the reserve champions or the other placings. If that reporter can’t do a better job, please get the 4-H office to provide you with complete results. They will be glad to give you a complete list of placings. George Mohn NewviOe Editor's Note - Our Oct. 9 issue of Lancaster Farming featured the 1982 State 4-H Horse Show champions with the most coverage space allotted to this show for the past several years. We provided three full pages for FOUNDED IN 1920. THIS SALE REPRESENTS A FLOCK OF CONSTANTLY BRED HIGH QUALITY, PRODUCTIVE EWES, WITH OVER 60 YEARS OF DEDICATION BEHIND THEM. ALL EWES SELLING ARE BRED OR HAVE ALREADY LAMBED. LAMBS ARE SIRED BY TWO YOUNG STUDS FROM THE WELL KNOWN BRUNGES FLOCK. PRODUCTION RECORDS ARE AVAILABLE FOR YOUR REFERENCE. IT IS WITH REGRET THAT WE SEE AN END TO THIS FINE DORSET FLOCK AT HILLSIDE FARMS. HOWEVER, THIS SALE PROVIDES A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR DORSET BREEDERS TO ADD THESE SELECT EWES TO THEIR PROGRAMS. more pictures and the listing of top winners this year, as compared to less than two full pages in 1980 and 1981. Pictures and show results were provided to Lancaster Farming by Penn State's Agricultural Com munications office. We published the information we received in its en tirety. and used as many of the 94 champion photographs as space allowed. Lancaster Farming greatly ap preciates the “above-the-call-of-duty" effort the Penn State crew puts into covering this three-day event, snapping and processing pictures of each 4-H champion and compiling a complete listing of champions. As Lancaster Farming expands its coverage area, trying to publish as many fairs and shows as possible within our set amount of space, we have found it necessary to limit the depth of listed results depending on the size of the show. Beginning January 1 we will be limiting show' results to three pfadngs, maximum. While we agree that everyone who participates in shows and other events are "winners," only one person can claim first-place.
