j J Ida’s Notebook Ida Risser This is the season lor going to fairs. My husband picked a day that suited him and off we went to the York Fair. 1 had mixed feelings about going as 1 was reluctant to leave a basket of tomatoes, one of pears and one of apples on the back porch. Also waiting to be picked were the blue grapes and the cucumbers. But, 1 tackled the 30b of packing a lunch which is my usual assignment on any all-day trip away from home. When we arrived there, we righ discovered that it was Senior Citizen’s Day and even though we haven’t reached that point, they let us pass anyway, in the afternoon when we tried to buy tickets to see the horse races, we were again told that it was free which was a pleasant surprise. In the first building that we visited, there were hundreds and hundreds of geese, ducks, chickens, pigeons and rabbits. Even a few guinea pigs were there and reminded me of the ones that 1 had raised in my father’s barn long ago. There were manv commercial displays, lots of handiwork and art too. The place that really in terested me was the fruit, vegetable and flower exhibits. The Granges had numerous displays of agricultural products. Apparently, we were too early for the livestock as the cows and pigs were only beginning to arrive as we left in the late afternoon. However, I wasn’t disappointed as we have cows at home and the past B« wanner and wiser a Model 400 ...finest of circulators Beautiful porcelain finish.
