LANCASTER Lancaster County District Director Robert K. Mowrer of Willow Street has been selected by the Pennsylvania ' Association of Conservation Districts as the “Outstanding Conservationist” for 1982. award will be presented at the Association’s annual conference Oct. 5. Mowrer, who has been serving the District as a director since 1968, was introduced to agriculture and conservation ■ through his father a farm implement dealer in rural Lancaster County. The retired teacher and engineer for RCA decided to abandon his career at age 55 in order to devote all his time to conservation, especially seeking a state park for Lancaster County. As chairman of a civic committee, Mowrer was instrumental in founding the 224- acre Susquehannock State Park in 1963. The county’s only state park is located along the Susquehanna River gorge. He also was involved in die establishment of Muddy Run Recreation Area by the Philadelphia Electric Com pany as well as the Middle Creek Wildlife Area by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The Within Conservation pistrict activities, Mowrer helped establish a youth conservation camp. He also helped establish the Lancaster County Conservancy in 1969.
