Dio—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, September 4,1982 WHITNEYVILLE - Gordon and Dorothy Wood of Mansfield emerged from the show with Grand Champion Holstein honors at the 17th annual open dairy show at the Tioga County Fair, August 12 and 13. The Woods’ entry, an aged cow, is Gor-Wood Challenging Special out of Rolew Norma Speck, sired by Gor-Wood-D Challenger-Twin. The couple also earned Senior Champion Holstein, Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor. In the color breed competition, Verla J. VanDergrift of Wellsboro earned Senior and Grand Cham pion Ayrshire titles. The Brown Swiss champion in the open show belonged to Brian Sherman of Wellsboro. This cow moved from the Junior Champion placing to earn this award. Randy Johnson of Tioga cap tured the top awards in- the Guernsey class, including Senior Champion, Reserve Senior Champion, Grand Champion, and Reserve Grand Champion titles. In the Jersey breed, Normandell Farms of liberty emerged vic torious. After capturing the Senior Theodore Wivell of Mansfield earned all the top honors in the Milking Shorthorn breed. Ted, left, is holding the reserve champion while his cousin Phillip, stands at the champion’s Randy Johnson of Tioga earned both the Grand Champion and the Reserve Champion Guernsey awards in the open show. Randy, left, is joined by George Heck who holds the Barry Baker of Middlebury Center and Brian Sherman of Wellsboro earned the Reserve and Grand Champion titles, respectively, in the Brown Swiss Open Show. Wood family captures top awards and Reserve Champion honors, they went on to earn the Grand and Reserve Champion awards as well as Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor. Theodore Wivell of Mansfield took all the top honors in the Milking Shorthorn contest. The junior dairy show, held Tuesday, August 10, also saw Wivell leave the show ring with Junior Champion honors, in both the 4-H and the FF A competition. Grand Champion in the Ayrshire class went to Brian McKay of Mansfield, while Brian Sherman of Wellsboro won a comparable title in the Brown Swiss breed. Grand Champion Guernsey honors went to Randy Johnson of Tioga in the 4-H competition. Jeff Wheeler of Millerton cap tured the Grand Champion honors in both the 4-H and the FFA competition. Jeff was also Senior Champion winner in both.
