AlB—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 7,1982 Dumbelle Farms Holstein is Shippensburg champ BY BETH HEMMINGER Staff Correspondent SHIPPENSBURG - A six-year old cow bred and shown by Thomas Dum, 111 of Dumbelle Farms, Landisburg, was selected as the grand champion of the Ship pensburg Fair’s Holstein Show, held here last Thursday evening. In making his final selection, judge John Rinehart chose Tri- Pond Ivanhoe Aaggie as the best of approximately 200 black and white entries. The grand champion stood at the top of her class of aged cows with production records of 100,000 pounds milk. She is the daughter of Penstate Ivanhoe Star out of Tri- Pond Aaggie. Dum, who milks 50 Holstein cows said he is extremely concerned with the genetics of his cows. He said, “My philosophy is, produce the product in the fanciest package possible.” Reserve Grand Champion honors went to Creedin C. Corn man, Justa-Beauty Holsteins, Carlisle. Comman, a veteran in the show ring and at the Shippensburg Fair has won numerous titles during his years of attendance and this year his title was won with Justa-Beauty Kapen Libby, an aged cow. In her lifetime, Libby also has produced over 100,000 pounds of milk and placed second Junior Champion winner Christine Gitt, Littlestown, left, stands with her winning entry, Penn Gate Napoleon Clara. The Reserve Junior Champion title was awarded to Thomas Dum, 111, Dumbelle Farms, Landisburg, and his senior yearling heifer Dumbelle Kit Builder Mindy. Rodney Meyers of Chambersburg won the title of FFA Grand Champion with his Dry 3 and 4 Year Old Cow and Reserve Champion honors were presented to Timothy Schaffner, Carlisle (left). in the 100,000 pound production class. Libby freshened in September 1981 and has a record of about 21,756 pounds milk and 731 pounds fat, stated Steve Cornman of Justa- Beauty Holstems. This reserve grand champion has been a foundation cow for the well-known Justa-Beauty herd and she is the daughter of Justa-Beauty Gay Kim sired by Allendairy Kapen. Capturing the Grand Champion title in the 4-H show was Rodney H. Crider of Chambersburg. Rodney, a Franklin County 4-H member showed his homebred three-year old, Antnm-Spnng Marvet Brenda, to her champion title. Brenda also was selected as best uddered three-year-old. The 4-H champion is the daughter of An trun-Spring Flame Apollo and sired by Lawcrest Marvex-Twm. Dyar-Acres Lome Quality 'was named Reserve 4-H Grand Champion of the show. She is owned and was shown by Rebecca S. Dyarman of Shippensburg. Dyar-Acres Lome Quality topped the Dry 3 and 4-Year-Old class, and is the daughter of Dyar-Acres Rose Astrahoe Lmdy, sired by Quality Ultimate.
