4-H youth win
Bradford youth earns
leadership award
UNIVERSITY PARK - Marlene
Martz, 19, of Rl, Milan, was named
a state leadership winner reti
cently in the 1982 National Awards
Program.
Marlene will receive an expense
paid trip to the National 4-H
Congress.
Support of the leadership
program is provided by Readers
Digest.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Gilbert Martz, Marlene is a
student at the Robert Packer
Hospital School of Nursing. She
has been a 4-H member for 10
years.
A member of the East Smithfield
Flyers 4-H Club and the East
Smithfield Dairy Club, she has
served as president, secretary,
treasurer, news reporter, and song
and game leader.
The state leadership winner has
completed 4-H projects in health,
dairy, pet care, leadership,
clothing, crafts, beef production,
horse and pony, veterinary
science, automotive, nutrition,
handyman, bicycle safety,
photography, recreation, and
babysitting.
Centre Co. youth
wins clothing award
UNIVERSITY PARK - Debbie
Daum, 17, of 309 Madsion Street,
State College, has been named a
state winner for her clothing
project in the 1982 4-H National
Awards Program.
She will be eligible to attend the
National 4-H Congress in Chicago,
November 28 to December 2.
Support of the 4-H clothing
program is provided by Coats and
Clark, Inc. and E. 1. duPont
deNemours & Company, Inc.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Daum, Debbie will be a
senior this fall at State College
Area High School. She has been a 4-
H member for nine years.
A member of the Happy Valley 4-
H Club, she has served as
president, vice president,
secretary, treasurer, and news
reporter. She also assists as a teen
leader for clothing and food
projects.
Debbie completed 4-H projects in
clothing, crocheting, foods, flower
and vegetable gardening, home
management, crafts, and
leadership.
Northampton
UNIVERSITY PARK - Gwen
Hower, 19, of R 1, Northampton,
was named state citizenship
winner recently in the 1982 4-H
National Awards Program.
She will receive an expense-paid
trip to the National 4-H Congress.
Support of the citizenship project
is provided by the Coca-Cola
Company and Transcontinental
Gas Pipeline Corporation.
The daughter ot Mr. and Mrs.
Paul T. Hower, Gwen is a 1980
graduate ot Northampton High
School. She has been a 4-H member
tor 11 years.

UNIVERSITY PARK - Two
Chester County young adults, who
have compiled outstanding records
in 4-H work, were named state
contest winners in the 1982 4-H
National Awards Program.
Named were Elizabeth Colket,
16, of McAvoy Lane, Phoenixville,
state winner in dog care and
training and Elizabeth Wollaston,
18, of Maple Lawn Farm,
Toughkenamon, state winner in
personal development.
Both are eligible to attend
National 4-H Congress in Chicago,
November 28 to December 2. Miss
Colket will compete for awards at
the national level.

Purina Corporation; the personal
development program is supported
by the county.
Elizabeth Colket
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.
Kimble Colket, Elizabeth will be a
senior this fall at Westtown High
School. She hasbeen a 4-H member
for eight years.
A member of the Tri-Community
4-H Club, the Tri-Community 4-H
Dog Club, and Chester County 4-H
Council, she has served as
president, vice president,
secretary, and treasurer. She also
assisted younger 4-H members as
a teen leader for dog obedience and
showmanship training.

recreation, and Rusty Russell, 15,
of Rl, Alexandria, winner in the
agricultural program.
Rusty will receive an expense
paid trip to National 4-H Congress
in Chicago, November 28 to
December 2. Lolly will be eligible
to attend the congress, also.
Support of the agricultural
program is provided by In

LOLLY LONG
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
David Long, Lolly will be a
freshman at Penn State this fall,
majoring in agriculture. She has
been a 4-H member for 11 years.
A member of the Piney Ridge 4-
H Club, Huntingdon County 4-H
Dairy Club, and Huntingdon
County 4-H Council, she has served
as president, vice president,
secretary, treasurer, and news
reporter.

sophomore at Delaware Valley
College, majoring in dairy
husbandly. She has been a 4-H
member for 9 years.
A member of the Manor 4-H
Dairy Club and the Lonelon Grove
4-H Sewing Club, she has served as

Lolly has completed 4-H projects
in dairy, cooking, hiking, teen
leadership, and self
determination.
Locally, she has taken part in
officer training activities, 4-H teen
winter camp, 4-H Rural Life
Sunday, exchange programs, and
Huntingdon County Fair.
Lolly also participated in the
Pennsylvania State Dairy Show,
State 4-H Achievement Days,
Pennsylvania 4-H Leadership
Congress, Ag Progress Days, and
State 4-H Capital Days.
Commenting on the values of the
educational youth program, Lolly
said: "Personal growth and
development are the highest
rewards of the program. 4-H has
helped me understand myself and
to learn about others.’’
RUSTY RUSSELL
The son of Mr. and Mrs. W.
Wayne Russell, Rusty will be a
senior at Juniata Valley High
School. He has been a 4-H member
for six years.
A member of the Juniata Valley
4-H Club, Huntingdon County 4-H
Dairy Club, and Huntingdon
County 4-H Council, he has served
as president, vice president,
treasurer, and teen leader.

State 4-H Public Speaking Contest,
and Farm Show.
She said: “I feel 4-H has made
me a better person by increasing
my self-confidence and by helping
me handle various situations with
a more open mind.”
Rusty has completed 4-H
projects in entomology, geology,
forestry, rocketry, veal produc
tion, swine, dairy, physical fitness,
citizenship, square dance,
leadership, and weather.
He has been active in county
winter camp, 4-H officers training,
citizenship retreats, exchange
trips, and Huntingdon County Fair.
Rusty also participated in State
4-H Achievement Days, Farm
Show, and State 4-H Capital Days.
Commenting on the values of
the educational youth program, he
said: "4-H has helped me learn
how to make decisions and how to
follow through with them.”
