They are, from left, Charles Forney BY DEBBIE KOONTZ DOUGLASSVILLE - Only a brief shower served to make the Southeast Regional Livestock Judging Clinic, here at the Jesse Terry Farm, less than perfect as 153 participants from almost ten counties in the area and Maryland gathered for the annual school, Tuesday. The day-long event offered youngsters as well as adults the opportunity to learn judging techniques under the guidance of three judges: Cheryl Moran, Extension agent from Chester County; Ted Teaford, herdsman from Devereux Soliel farms in Chester County; and Ray Myers from Pennfield Feeds in Lan caster. Following judging demon strations, the participants had a chance to test their skills at judging. The results are below. The afternoon sessions mcluded a tour of the J.V. Polled Hereford Farm by owner Jesse Terry and a demonstration on oral reasons. Following the talk, presented by Cheryl Moran, Diane Krause presented a how-to example on reasons. Sheep for the event were provided by Dick Remp; swine and steers by Lloyd Zook of Oley; and beef heifers and cows from the Terry farm. According to Karen Taylor, Berks Extension agent, two sponsors helped financially with the field day. They were Farm Credit of Shoemakersville and Rich Brandt Real Estate. Heidi vonLange, R 3, Stewart stown, won a Gold Medal in dairy judging, placing Bth in the state. She will compete at the 1983 Farm Show as a part of the state FFA dairy judging team. The Parliamentary Procedure team won a Silver Medal placing 4th in the state competition. Members of the team were Ben Hushon, R 1 Delta; Ron Wilson, R 2 New Freedom; David Clegg, R 3, Stewartstown; Scott Cooper, R 3 Delta; Steve Sliger, Rl, Stewart* stown; Randy Sizemore, R 2, Delta; Bill Lowe, Rl, Fawn Grove; and Jon Hash, Rl, Fawn Grove. The Kennard-Dale Small Engine team of James Godfrey, R 2, Berks lists contest winners HAMBURG - During the Pennsylvania FFA Summer Convention, Berks County FFA members received many honors, including the first and second place dairy cattle judging teams. The first-place team is from the Hamburg Area FFA. Team members are Charles Seidel, Patricia Dreisbach, and Todd Miller. The second-place team is the Berks County , team. Team members are Scott Troutman of the Conrad Weiser FFA, Jay Bicksler, and William Lesher, both of the Tulpehocken FFA. The team was coached by David Allen. Todd Warner, Rl, New Park, won a Bronze Medal in the state FFA Tractor Driving Contest. He placed 13th in the contest. Scott Dickson, Rl, Fawn Grove, served as a delegate to the state convention representing York County. Other members of the Kennard- Dale Chapter also attended and competed in the following ac tivities. They included Bob Boothe and Steve Thompson in Agriculture Mechanics, Richard Channell and Kevin Ritz in Dairy Judging, John Williams and Tim Miller in Forestry, Kevin Mc- Fatridge in Livestock Judging, and Matt Stewart in Land Judging. first in the conservation public speaking contest. Marie Rohrbach, Hamburg Area FFA, won third in the livestock judging contest. Ted Kleinsmith, Kutztown FFA, won third in the dairy foods contest. Berks County also has two newly elected 1982-83 state FFA officers. Deborah Miller, Conrad Weiser FFA, was elected state reporter. Mark Latshaw, Kutztown FFA and former Berks County FFA president, was elected state chaplain.
