SWANTON, Md. - On June 5 and 6 more than SO Polled Hereford breeders and friends attended a trip and the annual meeting of Wat Mason-Dixon Association. The field trip included visits to North American Breeders, Inc., BerryviDe, Va,; the Flint Run Farm of Ray and Vera Rudacille; Huckleberry Hall Farms; and Walnut Hill Farm near Smithsburg, Md. The itinerary and arrangements were made by Mr. & Mrs. Samuel C. Hunter, Smithsburg, Md. Speaker at the annual meeting was Paul Wall, APHA Region 11 Coordinator who presented an illustrated lecture on “The New Performance Pedigree of Polled Herefords." The membership elected Don E. Mason-Dixon P. Hereford Assn, holds field trip Ross, Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; In a brief board meeting the Lawrence A. Chaikcic, Vanderbilt, following officers were elected: Pa.; and Edward Bucklew, In* Dr. Willi am H. Buser, Swanton, dependence, W. Va. to the board Md., president; Don E. Ross, of directors with terms expiring in Bruceton Mills, W.Va., vice -1985. president; 0. Randall Hannan, BEAVERTOWN Brooks End and Par Kay Farms held their annual summer sale last Friday. Auctioneer Mike Jones of LaGrange, Georgia sold 240 head for |85,430 averaging $356 per head. The top-selling animal was a Yorkshire boar. Lot 142 RTBI Field Marshal 161-6. This boar sold to Sam Lane of Dover, North York boar brings $l,OOOO Carolina for $l,OOO. The top-selling Yorkshire bred gilt was Lot 43, purchased by Thomas Frazier and family of Fort Wayne, Indiana for $7OO. The top-selling Landrace boar was Lot 161, purchased by Gary R. Johnson and family of Greentown, Indiana. The boar brought $6OO. Ronald Beck of Mill Hall pur chased the top-priced Landrace Accident, Md., treasurer; and Brenda Jenkins, Friendsville, Md. secretary. Two major activities are currently being planned by the Association; a cattlemen’s workshop to held in October bred gilt. Lot 96, for $570. The 58 head of Yorkshire bred gilts averaged $456; 38 head of Yorkshire boars averaged $502. Altogether the Yorkshire offering averaged $474. The 35 head of Landrace bred gilts averaged $427; 9 Landrace boars brought an average $382. The 44 head averaged $414. The average price paid for 100 commercial open gilts was $217.
