Bl4—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, May 22,1982 LEBANON Seven County 4-H members have been named fmabsts in the State 4-H Awards program, according to 4-H Agent Linda Rohrbach. Selected are: Greg Allwem, Leadership; Deb Bolles, Poultry; Megan Connor, Dairy Foods, Foods and Nutrition; Michelle Noll, Achievement, Gardening; Lon Ressor, Consumer Education; Beth Shiner, Outstanding 4-H’er; and Dan Shiner, Outstanding 4- H’er. Linda Rohrbach says “Of the 90,000 4-H’ers in the state, only 148 are Keystone winners, and seven of them are from our local programs. We’re very proud of their accomplishments. ” Keystone winners are in terviewed last week on the Penn State Campus. Their interview score will be added to their record score. The high scoring individual in each project category the State Winner will attend National 4-H Congress in Chicago. The top five Outstanding 4-H’ers m the state will attend National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C. Greg Allwem Greg, a fresh man at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, has been a 4-H member for 8 years. Past president of Norsolebco 4-H Club 4-H teen overcomes handicap Though Tourette Syndrome is not fatal, there is no known cure for it. Kevm remembers that while the physical effects were min imum for him, the emotional and social scars of having his self esteem ridiculed were devasting. He credits his 4-H work for its positive effects He stated, “4-H was my savior. The kids there didn’t even know I had Tourette. It was under control, but the kids at school still remembered. I could do 4-H activities and be myself. ” What Kevin has achieved through 4-H is admirable too. He is presently the planning chairman for this year’s county 4-H exchange to Tennessee. He has participated in all levels of competition from county to the state level. Recently he was the Master of Ceremonies at State Capital Days. Kevin has also won the William Miller Award, a county award for per sonal development. Upon graduation from high school, Kevin hopes to attend the Thad deus Stevens School of Technology Distributor of Blue Ball, Pa. Lebanon 4-H'ers named Keystone winners and County 4-H Teen Council, Greg has been active in Olympic Day, Camp Counseling, Teen Leader ship, and the Lebanon Area Fair. He has attended PA 4-H Leader ship Congress, Cititzenship- Washington Focus, and Regional and State Achievement Days. He is employed as an Urban 4-H Assistant this summer. He is a son of John and Mary Allwein. Deb Bolles - A rabbit enthusiast, Deb is an active member of a community club, Teen Council, and the county 4-H Rabbit Club. Deb has attended Leadership Congress, 4-H Camp Shehaqua, and State 4-H Achievement Days. Deb is also active in inter-state 4-H exchange, having traveled to Vermont in 1981 and hosting Kentucky 4-H’ers in 1982. She is a student at Northern Lebanon High School. Her parents are Rosanne and Walter Bolles. Megan Connor - Megan, a senior at Cedar Crest, was 1981 In ternational Four-H Youth Ex change to Trinidad and Tobago. Following her trip, she has talked to over 1,000 people about the local foods and customs of the islands she visited. Megan’s other ac tivities have included: Foodarama (2nd place Individual in the State contest), Leadership Congress, (Continued from Page B 13) to become wood working craft sman. Kevin hopes that his story will be helpful to others who need ac curate information about Tourette Syndrome. He stated, “If I can, I’d like to keep anyone from going through what I did. All those tests, all that ridicule. Actually, I’m one of the lucky ones. With an accurate diagnosis and my medicine, I get along pretty good. Our story isn’t as bad as what happens to some kids.” Mary Lou Reaver added, “All it takes is one spark of knowledge. Kevin’s biggest progress has been in the last three years non that everyone knows that Kevin has a neurological problem. Michelle Noll - Michelle has been an active member of Mill Acres 4-H Club, and County 4-H Teen Council. A horticulture enthusiast, she has organized the horticulture contest at Regional Day. A member of the 1979 State Horticulture team, she attended the National Junior Horticulture Association meeting in St. Louis Active in many county 4-H activities, Michelle is a student at Thompson Institute and is employed by the Lebanon Area Fair. She is a daughter of Melvin and Marguerite Noll. Lori Ressor - Lori is an active member of Avon-East Lebanon 4-H Club and news reporter for the County 4-H Teen Council. Lon has attended County and Regional Fashion Revues, State Days in the Foodarama contest, PA Farm Show, Lebanon Area Fair, and Olympic Day. Lori, a student at Elco, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Reesor. Beth Shiner - Beth, a senior at Elco, is a member of the Myer stown 4-H Raiders and county 4-H Teen Council. She is vice chairman of the County 4-H Board of Directors. Baker 4-H Scholarship. The $250 tuition credit is awarded annually to two current or former Pennsylvania 4-H members who are also Penn State students. Beth, a 4-H member for 9 years, will attend Penn State as a food science major in Fall 1982. The scholarship award is based on Beth’s active participation in 4- H including.
