But before voting it off the floor, the senators had amended portions of the original bill. These amendments will have to be confirmed by the House before this legislation, which would strike eminent domain from the Scenic River Act, can be sent to the Governor’s desk. A bill which will keep farmers who are plagued with deer and elk damage happy is still on the House calendar. Senate Bill 1198 amends the present fencing law to allow for a total of $25,000 annually for deer proofing material purchases. S.B. 1210, the oil and gas leasing bill, was reported back to the Senate Appropriations Committee after having been on first con sideration on the Senate floor last Wednesday. And, S.B. 1208, the Cruelty to Animals bill introduced last November by Sen. George tiekas (R-15th), has come out of the woodwork. The Senate Judiciary Committee favorably reported this bill out of committee on Tuesday. This bill, which created quite a stir in the farming community until the senator amended out those portions of the bill which would have affected farm animals, now has the support of all three farm organizations: State Grange, Pennsylvania Farmers’ Association and Pennsylvania Farmers’ Umon.
