The two-day session will begin on Saturday, April 24 at 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. and will continue on Sunday from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. It will take place at the Student Learning Center of the Penn State Berks campus. “Today’s horse can provide an individual with a hobby, a career, recreation, physical fitness and/or competitive sports events,” remarks the Berks County Agent. “Because of their uniqueness and the expense of ownership, horse owners need to continue updating their knowledge of equuies. ’ ’ During this year’s Expo, more than 30 exhibits will be on display, representing various horse breeds, clubs and commercial firms. This fashion show, which will present the appropriate attire for special events and the newest styles m Western wear, will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Artists, photographers, and other craftsmen will be competing in an amateur art contest that has as its theme “Horse.” Prizes will be awarded to different age groups, including grades 1-3; 4-6; 7-9; 10-12; and adult. Contestants will be bringing their work along to the Expo. There also will be a hor semanship contest, reports Myers. “Horsemen of all ages can test their knowledge of all areas of equine science. Contestants will be asked to identify tack and equipment, feeds, breeds, and judge hay.” This contest, which mcludes a quiz, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and will continue throughout the day until 3 p.m. It will take about 30 minutes to complete the contest, and winners will receive prizes. Movies, a used tack and equipment sale, and a horse bowl contest will be features of the two day Horse Expo. And the cost for this special informational event is only |1 per car for parking, with proceeds going to the Berks County Equine Council and4-H facilities. Many of the events will be held outside, weather permitting. And refreshments will he available from the Berks County Blind Assn.
