B3o—Lancaster (‘arming, Saturday, April 17,1982 Game Commission announces ‘B2 hunting HARRISBURG - Traditional four-week seasons for archery deer and regular small game hunting; a two-week buck season followed by two days of antlerless hunting; and four days for flm tlockers and late archers highlight 1982-1983 seasons and bag limits were adopted recently by the Game Commission. Fall archery deer season opens Saturday, Oct. 2; the early small game season starts Saturday, Oct. 16; and the four-week general small game season begins Saturday, Oct. 30. A one-day bear hunt has been scheduled Monday, Nov. 22, in all or parts of 41 counties. The regular two-week antlered deer season opens Monday, Nov. 29; the two-day statewide an tlerless deer season is Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 13 and 14; and the winter archery and flintlock deer season will begin Dec. 15 and end Dec. 18. Winter small game hunting starts Dec. 27 and ends Jan. 8, while a three-week grouse season from Jan. 10 through 29 is scheduled for 55 counties. Snowshoe hares may be hunted from Dec. 27 through Jan. 1. The general trapping season opens Nov. 3 and ends Jan. 31. Mink and muskrat can be taken from Dec. 26 through Jan. 9. Beaver season begins Feb. 12 and closes March 13. Fox hunting begins Nov. 3 and ends Feb. 28. Raccoon hunting and trapping for Pennsylvania residents opens Nov. 3; for nonresidents, the season begins Dec. 3. Raccoon hunting and trapping end Jan. 31. For 1982, the Game Commission allocated 90,000 bear licenses and 360,500 antlerless deer licenses. 125,000 bear licenses were authorized in 1961. The 1981 an tlerless deer license allocation was 451,250. Parts of Erie and Mercer counties in Turkey Management Area 3, closed to turkey hunting in the fall season last year, will remain closed in 1962, along with the portions of Armstrong, Butler, Indiana and Lawrence counties in Management Area 3. Wild turkeys transferred into these counties need protection until flocks become more firmly established. In a minor deviation from earlier proposals, that part of northern Northampton County east of Route 191 and north of Routes 512 and 611 will be closed to bear hunting to afford protection in Bear Swamp, a part of the county’s parks system.
