FARM SHOW Two new scions - one imported from the l&owest and the second bred on a Lancaster County farm - made their initial presence felt in the Belgian competition in the big arena on Monday. And it’s likely they and their coming offspring will continue to go head to head in future Farm Shows. The import, Confident’s Red Man, which was named grand champion Belgian stallion, was purchased this summer from Hale Bros, of Lovington, 11., by C. L. Omdorff and Christina Lemley, ofWaynesburg. The nine-year-old stallion was bought to replace Congolaise, primary Omdorff stud, who died in May at the age of 12. The Lancaster-bred stallion, who took the reserve grand champion Belgian stallion honors, was Windward’s Lanceur Penn, owned by Jacob and D. E. Ruhl, of R 6, Manheim. Less than two years old, the young Lanceur is still adding breadth, depth and muscle and will be a growing force in coming yC>- Ahd he has already competed against quite a Belgian show background belong to Red Man. The older stallion has been national champion two years and reserve national champion another two years, as well as champion at numerous Midwest state fairs. “He’s just a well-balanced horse,” Christina Lemley ex plains, “from his head and neck through his hocks.” “He’ll now be our stud.” Only in Farm Show competition for three years, the Ruhls are aiming for steady progress in their placings. Two years ago, Lanceur’s sire, Penn State Congolaise, took rul jve senior champion for the Rimls. Last year, Penn, who is a son of the former Omdorff stud, was named reserve grand champion. And this year, the son took the title away from him.
