Farm Credit honors Brown e YORK Mrs. Peggy Brown, of the Farm Credit Associations of York, was honored with the Distinguished Service Award at the annual stockholders meeting of the Farm Credit of Baltimore on Nov. 12. The award, presented by Glenn Stevens, senior vice president, was for significant contributions toward the accomplishments of the Institution’s objectives and for maintaining high standards of performance. Ag mechanics team places 24th MANHEIM A team of Lan caster County students competed m an agricultural mechanics contest during the S4th National FFA Convention at Kansas City, Mo. The team representing the state of Pennsylvania included Glenn Hartz, of R 1 Morgantown (Eastern Lancaster County School District); Jim Malone, of R 1 Washington Boro (Penn Manor High School); and John Stepan chak of RI Columbia (Manheim Central High School). The team finished 24th out of 43 competing teams and earned a silver emblem award. During the induction ceremony greenhands were reminded that this is merely the first step in their FFA career and should be used as a stepping stone towards higher degrees and awards. They are also reminded of the importance of American agriculture in‘feeding the world and its importance to our national economy. Members are encouraged to set high goals for themselves and then work towards these goals. Contest activities include solving agricultural mechanics problems, demonstration of shop skills and a written examination m such areas as soil and water management, farm power, farm machinery, carpentry and concrete. Funds provided by Firestone Tire And Rubber Company through the National FFA Foundation, Inc., helped offset administrative expenses of the contest and provide awards and travel money for contestants.
