Mrs. Anna Rolinski. H H Leid Auction Service Buck season opens HARRISBURG - Pennsylvania deer hunters, accustomed in recent years to whitetail harvests of over 100,000 animals, should have another good season this year, according to reports filed by field officers. Last year, hunters reported tagging 73,196 bucks and 62,261 antlerless whitetails, for a total harvest of 135,477. SAT. NOV 28 - 9 AM Public Sale ol Sewing Sup plies. Tools and Household Goods Located 6 mi south of Ouarryville, 8 mi. north of Oxford, 500'off 472 along Maple Shape Rd. at Kirkwood Fabric, Lane Co Sale by Abram B Stoltzfus Monday The regular two-week antlered deer season will open one half hour before sunrise Monday, November 30, and close at sunset Saturday, December 12. The regular statewide an tlerless deer season is scheduled Monday and Tuesday, December 14 and 15. Pennsylvania’s total 1981 pre-hunting season deer population, numbering just below 750,000 animals, is slightly below last year’s total, mainly due to the above-average harvest of bucks in 1980. The Game Com mission hopes hunters will report taking at least 62,000 bucks and another 65,000 antlerless deer this year. Food shortages could develop in case of a severe winter, and an under harvest of deer this fall could result in higher than-normat winter mortality. All deer hunters must wear at least 100 square mches of fluorescent orange material, either on the head, or on the chest and back com bined. Both fluorescent orange caps and vests or coats are recom mended by the Game Commission, not only for safety, but also to make it easier to keep tabs on other drivers and watchers. A hunter may take only one deer per hunting license year, and cannot kill, or at tempt to kill, a second whitetail. To be a legal buck, a deer must have two or more points to one antler or have one antler at least three inches long. Not more than 25 persons are permitted to hunt deer in a single party, and groups of five or more hunting in unison must maintain a roster. Hunters must tag their deer within one hour of killing and before the animal is removed from where it is taken. A detachable deer tag is provided with each hunting license. The tag must be separated from the hunting license, filled out and kept tied to the deer while it is being transported, hung at camp or temporarily placed in cold storage. A deer is not properly tagged if the entire hunting license is removed from the hunter’s back and at tached to the deer. The big game kill report card furnished with the hunting license must be mailed to the Game Commission within five days of the harvest.
