and sixth in several classes. They
professed that they were par
ticularly proud of these winnings,
because they placed over several
western breeders who have been
well known in national Southdown
show rings for a number ot years.
Also prominent in the National
Southdown Show was W.G. Car
penter and Son of Jefferson, Md.
Their senior ram lamb won first
place and senior ewe lamb took
second. This family has been
showing Southdowns for many
years, selling many sheep which
continue to breed champions such
as some of those shown by the
Rolirer family.
Even with over 3,400 entries
filing the sheep barns, the Hope
listers of Knoxville, Md. left their
mark on the National Junior
Hampshire Show. The early spring
ewe lamb owned by Mary Hope
was first, and her pair of early ewe
lambs also won top honors. Mary
and Rebecca showed the third
place state flock and gathered

several other top winnings in the
Junior Show.
Their strength held out in "the
strongest national Hampshire
show ever,” according to Judge
Buster Wilson of Virginia. The
Hopes’ winnings in the open show
included sixth place pair of early
ewe lambs and ninth place in a
class of more than sixty entries.
Although young, Rebecca and
Mary Hope have proven that they
have a flock of Hampshires that
can stand up against some of the
toughest competition in the nation.
'One other Pa. exhibitor,-
Morrmstan Hamps of Elverson,
continued the strong showing of
this area in the Hampshire show.
Morrmstan’s junior ram lamb was
fifth place in a class of 59 entries.
in the National Suffolk Junior
Show, Troy Ness of Dallastown,
York County, had the first place
fall ram lamb and was fifth in the
senior showmanship division. The
National Suffolk Show at NAILE
boasted more than 100 individual
exhibitors and flocks from
nineteen states.
