They professed that they were par ticularly proud of these winnings, because they placed over several western breeders who have been well known in national Southdown show rings for a number ot years. Also prominent in the National Southdown Show was W.G. Car penter and Son of Jefferson, Md. Their senior ram lamb won first place and senior ewe lamb took second. This family has been showing Southdowns for many years, selling many sheep which continue to breed champions such as some of those shown by the Rolirer family. Even with over 3,400 entries filing the sheep barns, the Hope listers of Knoxville, Md. left their mark on the National Junior Hampshire Show. The early spring ewe lamb owned by Mary Hope was first, and her pair of early ewe lambs also won top honors. Mary and Rebecca showed the third place state flock and gathered Feed Bins shepherds several other top winnings in the Junior Show. Their strength held out in "the strongest national Hampshire show ever,” according to Judge Buster Wilson of Virginia. The Hopes’ winnings in the open show included sixth place pair of early ewe lambs and ninth place in a class of more than sixty entries. Although young, Rebecca and Mary Hope have proven that they have a flock of Hampshires that can stand up against some of the toughest competition in the nation. 'One other Pa. exhibitor,- Morrmstan Hamps of Elverson, continued the strong showing of this area in the Hampshire show. Morrmstan’s junior ram lamb was fifth place in a class of 59 entries. in the National Suffolk Junior Show, Troy Ness of Dallastown, York County, had the first place fall ram lamb and was fifth in the senior showmanship division.
