The Lesher family, owners and operators of the dairy wiiich also includes a jug store, milk 98 cows. All the milk .produced is jugged for retail sale at the store or made into ice cream. Way-Har Farms has participated m the tour for many years. —Robert and Gladys Kieffer, Hamburg. The Kieffers are presently milking 47 cows and fanning 300 acres with the help of their children. Here visitors were shown a stanchion barn with pipeline, loafing shed, calf hut ches, farm equipment, ducks, chickens, geese and rabbits, as well as dairy calves and cows. —Ro-Ria Farms, Hamburg. Operated by Roy & Ronald Christman and their families, this dairy operation was begun 37 years ago and has been involved with the farm tour for many years. Here visitors saw a carousel milking parlor in use and large farm equipment needed to farm the 3,000 acres which are part of this operation. —Shartlesville Farm Service, Hamburg. Owned and operated by Daniel Wenger and sons, this business has been in operation for 26 years. On display for visitors were a full line of farm machinery from the nut and bolt to the largest harvesting equipment. —Del-James Farm, Virgmville, operated by James and Delores Adam and their children, is a general crop and dairy farm which also has a carousel milking parlor where they milk 150 cows. Here visitors were shown "calf hutches and learned about the concept of magnetic feeders. —Peters Bros. Meat Market, Inc., Lenhartsville. Guests on the tour were shown the operation from holding pens, through the slaughter area, coolers, processing rooms, lard rendering rooms, smokehouse and retail store. Ontelaunee Orchards, Leesport. Here visitors were given tours of an atmosphere controlled fruit storage building with a 84,00(1 bushels capacity. The orchard consists of 825 acres of apples, 200 acres of peaches, and 35 acres of other fruits, and a retail market. —Gaetam Brothers Mushrooms, Temple. Visitors saw mushrooms being grown in 200,000 square feet of space under the direction of Silvio and Joe Gaetam and, families. This operation was started m 1949. —Harold and Eleanor Burgert, Fleetwood. Visitors toured one of the oldest farms in the county .which once served as a stagecoach relay station. It consists of 120 acres where the Burgerts raise cows, steers, hogs, chickens and ducks. —Red Wing Farms, Pricetown. Operated by Gordon Yorgey and sons, this farm consists of over 300 acres of> corn, soybeans, and hay. The Yorgey’s fatten about 1,000 hogs and steers each year and produce eggs from 45,000 brown egg layers. Guests to this operation were shown the egg process complex, laying houses, feed mill where all of the feed is mixed, and hog fattening operation.. _ VT a? Betty Jean Hoch. Balthaser, Chairman of the Berks County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee has announced that elections for Berks Community Committeemen are being held at the present time. All ballots must be in the county office by December 7. Voting is being held by mail. Each of the eleven communities in the county has a slate of five-candidates from which to choose. Voters are asked to vote for three or less; the candidate getting the highest vote will be the chairman of the community committee, the next highest will be the vice chairman, third will be a regular member, the the fodrth and fifth will be first and second alternates.
