Swadley, Hagerstown, Md. was elected Maryland State Grange Master during the recent 107th Annual State Grange Session in Frederick, Md. Swadley replaced out-going Master Rodman Myers, Thur mont, Md., who held the high office for the past four years. A member of the Wacohu Grange for 34 years, Swadley has served as state treasurer and presently was serving on the State ' Grange executive committee. Currently a loan officer for Farmers and Merchant Bank of Hagerstown, the new master will retire from banking in January 1982. Swadley and wife Thelma, a past state Ceres will represent the National Grange in Spokane, Washington, November 9-16. Before the Annual Session en ded, grange delegates adopted several resolutions on four plat forms: Transportation; Agriculture; Safety Report; Health and Education. The adopted resolutions arc as follows: Transportation Charles Braner, Chairman: ./•Support a motor fuel tax in crease, provided it be used to improve and maintain present road and bridge construction. .'Revise National Clean Air Act. '•Support increased develop ment of domestic energy resources to reduce dependence on foreign oil. '•Urge judges to enforce new iryL -angt receives congratulations from former Master C. Agriculture Jesse Burall, Chairman .-Urge Governor to provide necessary funds for the con tinuation of the 2-year Institute of Applied Agriculture. .-Urge Governor and Legislature to continue adequate funding of all agriculture programs at the University of Maryland and UMES Campus. . .-Urge USDA to take steps to require all tobacco grown in states with quotas, be counted against that quota. -•Urge Congress to fund Soil Conservation Service conservation practices with adequate personnel. --Request more funding for Agricultural Land Preservation Program. --Require Department of Assessment and Taxation to mail triennial assessment worksheets to landowners. --Urge Md. Dept, of Agriculture to assess degree of infestation of Multiflore Roses in each county to determine if it should be a noxious weed. '•Urge Md. Extension Service to include Federal Crop Insurance in their 1982 farmer educational meeting. calling for a 70 percent minimum dairy price support through 1981.
