B4—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 31,1981 Agent enjoys work (Continued from Page B 2) It comes as no surprise when she says she enjoys sewing her own clothing, and enjoys doing hand work, including quilting. An avid swimmer, she likes to swin three to four miles a week, and as a water safety instructor is required to teach at least one class per year to keep up her cer tification. She is already inquiring about the possibility of finding a class to teach. Hiking is another sport she enjoys, and particularly enjoyed a recent two-week visit to Montana and the Glacier National Park. If time permits, Donna is in terested in pursuing an interest she has in old architecture, and has already cast some interested glances toward downtown Lan caster and its treasure trove of old buildings. Although she has never served on committees which deal with this problem, she said she has taught about it and would like to get more involved. The first few weeks on a job may be the easiest ones because the phone is not ringing and respon sibilities are - not yet filling the calendar. Donna is beginning to feel she has passed those quiet days, and finds her days filled as she spends time learning about 4-H and about Lancaster County. With a trusty map of Lancaster county to guide her, she says with a smile, “I haven’t been lost. I’m pretty good with a map." After two weeks she says con fidently, “I am really liking it. Everything has fallen together in the last week really well. I like living in an ag community.” •EASILY INSTALLED it 2 Locations BEILERS REPAIR SHOP Christiana, R 2 Pa. 17509 ToStrasburg N \ '<) A \r Noble Rd yy \ Bartvilleßd. \o' BEILERS^ ENGINE SHOP *v*° Each season of the year brings its own special jobs. My cellar is beginning to look like a squirrel’s cache as the rafters are hanging with bunches of popcorn, drying peanut plants and bags of walnuts. When I offered them free to anyone willing to pick them up,„ two people came and got twelve bushels. I’ve hu'led over two bushel and our son took some to State College for one of his professors. 1 doubt if we’ve picked half of them up this fall. Another job that takes time is digging sweet potatoes. Now 1 have a lot of tubers and bulbs to dig as the dahlias, gladiolus, tuberoses and three kinds of lilies must all be brought in for the winter. On my way to the canning shelves, I pass baskets of big yellow onions, green tomatoes wrapped in newspaper to ripen and flowers hanging up to dry. There are over one hundred flower pots all over the house on the win dowsills. It does take tune to water and tend them but I enjoy doing it. The impatiens are so very colorful as are the begonias. The small ornamental peppers are also quite attractive. When I’m not working outside, I’m trying to finish two patchwork pillows that 1 started a few weeks ago. You see, I took a> machine quilting course and found it vexy interesting. 1 don't have much patience and though this "lazy” way might be for me. It was amazing to see what could be created by following instructions. 1 guess other farm wives are as busy or busier than 1 am and are also looking forward to an easing up of their work load in the winter months ahead.
