Reaganomics figures into Manheim beef show

MANHEIM Reaganomics
played a role in the Baby" Beef
Show at the Manheim Fair
Tuesday night.
When the 4-H winner, a 1235-
pound roan and white cross out of a
Charolais-Angus cow and a Mame-
Anjou bull, was pitted against a
1310-pound yellowy-beige
behemoth that mixed Charolais
with Chianma, judge Dan Loy,
Penn State grad student and coach
of the livestock judging team, went
to the smaller, stockier animal.
The roan and white was shown
by 15-year-old Lon Good, daughter
of Paul and Vera Good, 795 W.
Lexington Rd., Lititz R 6.
The FFA champion animal, the
big yellow, was shown by Barry
Geib, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Geib, R 4, Manheim, who captured
his fourth straight FFA title.

smaller 4-H animal.
Lon, who got her steer from Carl
Herr, ot Lampeter, calls him
"Benson.” (He does have some
Angus blood.)
Lon will show him at the County
Roundup on November 9 and then
must make a decision whether to
market him or possibly shrink him
tor the Farm Show.
Lon is the fourth Good 4-H’er to
compete. Her older sister and two
brothers preceded her in 4-H,
raising their projects on the
family’s 100-acre hog and steer
farm.
“My sister helped me get started
two years ago, but this year I was
all on my o wn, ” Lon explained.
Her previous high finishes were
class seconds at county fairs and
