P2—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 3,1981 BY SHEILA MILLER GRATZ A Hampshire barrow walked off with the Supreme Championship at last Wednesday’s 4-H and Open Swine shows here at the fairgrounds. The overall winner was the entry of York County’s Mike Bankert. The Reserve Supreme Champion honor went to a Spotted barrow shown by Kevin Brown of Khngerstown, Northumberland County. Twenty-one-year-old Brown also exhibited several breeding champs, including the champion and reserve champion Duroc sows, champion Yorkshire boar and champion Spotted boar. Brown, a graduate of Line Mountain High School, has been showing swine for the past 10 years, both in 4-H and FFA. He is currently working with his parents, Harvey and Delphine, and brothers, Kyle and Kurt on their 100 sow Duroc, Spotted, and Yorkshire operation. The Brown farm was formerly a dairy operation, however, Delphine explains, “we just got tired of being tied down seven days a week.” This week Kevin exhibited his hogs at the Bloomsburg Fair for the first tune.
