Dl6—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, September 26,1981 Livestock Marketing, World Meat KANSAS CITY, Mo. - In ternational livestock and meat industry leaders will join their North American counterparts when the sth World Meat Congress is held in conjunction with Livestock Marketing Congress ‘B3. The announcement that the two events will be held together in Nashville in June, 1983, was made by Glen Allen, chairman of Livestock Merchandising In stitute, Kansas City. The Institute has been staging the annual Marketing Congress since 1970. Allen said that the sponsors of the World Meat Congress, the International Permanent Meat Office, had agreed at the 4th World Meat Congress in May to select a North American site for the ‘B3 Congress. In June, the Institute’s Board of Governors agreed to act as hosts for the sth Meat Congress and proposed holding the two Congresses in conjunction with one another. The Meat Office, known as OPIC after the Spanish translation of its name, then decided at its Direc tors’ meeting here recently to conduct the event in conjunction with Livestock Marketing Congress ‘B3. OPIC was founded in 1974 and is headquartered in Madrid, Spain. It is composed of 35 livestock and meat-related organizations m 18 countries. Its Directors’ meeting here was its first meeting in North America. Allen, who is also OPIC treasurer, said the Directors were briefed on the Institute’s conduct of the an nual Congress and its plans for holding the two events together. The two events will be hosted and conducted by the Institute, working with an advisory com mittee from OPIC. “We are very pleased that the North American livestock in dustry’s premier annual con ference, the Marketing Congress, will benefit from its exposure to an international audience.
