A2B—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, September 12,1981 Eberts wins 7 “Champion” awards at Open Sheep Show ARENDTSVILLE - The 59th South Mountain Fair ends today but the memories go on and on, especially for someone like Richard Eberts of Pine Haven Farms, Newville, who emerged from the open sheep judging contest with an armful of ribbons. Eberts showed the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion rams and ewes of the Suffolk breed and the Champion and Reserve Champion ram and Champion ewe in the Rambomllet breed. Not to be outdone was Preston Bankert of Rippling Run Farms, Red Lion, who showed four champions in the -Southdown breed. The top four spots in the Merino class belonged to Charles and Barbara Platt, Belmont Ridge Farms, Gettysburg. The top four Oxffird breed titles went to Dave Bixler of Carlisle. Robert and Susie Leib of Shepherd’s Crook Farms, Mechamcsburg, showed the Grand and Reserve Champion Dorset ram, the Grand Champion Dorset ewe, and the Champion Hampshire ram. Frank Jr. and Becky Darcey of Spring Bottom Farms, Fairfield, took home honors for the Cham pion and Reserve Champion ram and Champion ewe in the Shrop shire breed. Over 140 entries competed in the open show, Monday.
