C24—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, September 1981 Bradford 4-H’ers 4 round-up’ dairy cattle TROY Several 4-H'ers trom Bradford County recently gathered at the Troy Fairgrounds to take part in the annual dairy Round-up which included the five major dairy breeds. Donald Jenkins swept the Black and White competition with two entries that took home Grand and Senior Champion and Reserve Grand and Reserve Senior Champion rosettes. Jenkins’ Grand and Senior Champion Holstein, Hi-Lev Betty King Daisy, is a 2-year-old sired by Li£e-o-RUey Marquis King and out of Hi-Lev Betty Million Linda. His aged cow entry, Wetona Star Galaxy, was the second top cow m the show. The Reserve Champion is sired by PmeyhiU Galaxy and out of Wetona Star Josie. In the Junior Holstein com petition, Dean W. Jackson’s senior yearling, Mt.-Glen Ned Delta- Dawn, came out on top. The Junior Champion is sired by Agro Acres Marquis Ned and out of Mt-Glen Chimes Delight. Terri Packard exhibited the Reserve Junior Champion, Pack- Herd Elevation Brassy. The senior yearling Elevation daughter is out of Pack-Herd Magnet Brill. Packard was also the Master Fitter and Showman for the all-day event. Carl Allen, Jon Jenkins, Michelle Wright and Eric Roberts placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th and sth, respectively, in that category. The Jersey division found Lorin K. Andrien and 4-year-old entry walking off with Grand and Senior Champion awards. 4-H’ers exhibit at Southeast Dairy Show ALLENTOWN - The 36th An nual Southeast District 4-H Dairy Show was held September I at the Allentown Fairgrounds. Two hundred twenty-four animals were exhibited by 152 4-H club members from seven Southeastern Penn sylvania counties including Berks, Bucks, Chester, Lehigh, Mon tgomery, Northampton and Schuylkill. Among the animals exhibited were 112 Holsteins, 35 Brown Swiss, 43 Jerseys, 14 Ayrshires and 20 Guernseys. Paul King, Holstein breeder from Delta judged the Holstein classes while Neil Bowen, Wellsboro, Holstein Breeder, COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Worcester County 4-H members again made a strong showing in the sixth annual 4-H and FFA poultry show, held in August at the Maryland State Fair in Timonium. Mike Ward of Pocomoke City exhibited the champion purebred large fowl, a Black Leghorn cock shown in the Asiatic breed class. Karen Wabeck of Salisbury, who also maintains her 4-H mem bership in Worcester County, had the champion fancy bantam, a white Cornish cockerel. Greg Trimble, of Essex, a Harford county 4-H member, took reserve champion honors in both of the purebred fowl categories. His runnerup large fowl was a Jersey Black Giant female entered in the American breed class. The run nerup fancy bantam was his Buff Brahamahen. Another Harford county 4-H member, Rhonda Hopkins of Bel Air, had both the champion and reserve champion birds in the egg production class. Jennifer Nickerson, 11, of Andrien’s Nobledale Dutchman Veryl is sired by Fairview Dut chman and out ot Noble Bruce Fashion Vayda. The senior 2-year-old entry ot Bruce Andnen, Jr. captured Reserve Grand and Reserve Senior honors. Shady-HUpSide Mandates Mirmi is sired by Spring Run QS Mandate and out ot Shady- Hill-Side LHK Debi. The Junior Jersey competition was topped by John Alltord’s senior yearling, Sunset Ridge Hilands Irene. The Junior Champion is sired by Hi-Land Empire State 78 and out ot Sunset Ridge Milestones Melody. The top Guernsey ot the day was Way View Fayvors Cathy, a senior 2-year-old, exhibitd by Michelle Wright. The Grand Champion is sired by Housleys Dan Fayvor and outo of Way View Claretta. Stacey Brackman took home two top awards with her senior yearling Guernsey, Leroy dales Deacon Lynne. The heiier was named Junior Champion and later captured the Reserve Grand Champion title. Brackman’s heifer is sired by Lyrene Wistar Deacon and out of Leßoydales Win Lilly. Christopher Brackman’s in termediate calf was chosen as Reserve Junior Guernsey.- Cedar Fringed F Rosa is sired by Edisto Farms T.H. Friday and out of Cedar Fringed Riva. Two senior yearlings were the top animals in the Brown Swiss division. High Spruce Toro Lila, the Junior Champion was exhibited by Karen Sue Cole. The judged. Ayrshires, Brown Swiss, Guernseys and Jerseys. During the course of the show, exhibitors who did an outstanding job of fitting and showing their animals were given Master Fitter and/or Master Showman awards. Fitting and Showmanship judges were: David Douglass, Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture; Jacob Guffey, Bradford County Extension Agent; and John Harris, Perry County Exension Agent. Rabbits take honors in round-up CHAMBERSBURG Franklin County 4-H Rabbit Club round-up was held August 17 in conjunction with the Franklin County Fair open youth rabbit show. Winners of the Senior Showmanship Class were; 1. Beth Luster, Waynesboro; 2. Daniel Hess, New Franklin; 3. Wendy Zullinger, Chambersburg. Winners of the Junior Showmanship Class were: 1. Laura Saber; 2. Ryan Zollinger; 3. Rodney Garlmg, allot Chambersburg. Four-H’ers from Franklin County took home most of the ribbons and money presented at the Franklin County Fair Open Youth Rabbit Show.
