Potter County holds 4-H, FFA beef and dairy shows
MILLPORT Potter County’s
annual 4-H and FFA Junior Beet
and Dairy Show was held recently
at the Millport Fairgrounds with 65
animals being shown.
Champion female in the
breeding beet classes was a
summer yearling Hereford heiter
shown by Mane Erway, Genesee.
Reserve champion was Coca-Cola
Cowgirl, a Charolais-Heretord,
shown by Michelle Hyde, Millport.
Grand champion steer was
‘Hardball’, shown by Mane Er
way. Hardball is a Hereford-cross
bred and first place in the heavy
weight class. First place in the
mediumweight went to Leon Tice,
Couderspot, with his Angus-
Holstem Enos.
First place in showing and fitting
went to Michelle Hyde in the senior
age group and to Mike Hyde in the
intermediate age group.
In the dairy competition, grand
and senior champion female
Holstein was Sadore Heather
Bootnick Heddy, owned by David
L. Risser, Genesee. Reserve grand
and reserve senior champion was
Catelmn Leader Jennifer, shown
by Kathy Heisey of RexviUe, N. Y.
Junior champion female was
shown by Candy Barker Cooney,
Ulysses, and was named Barkview
MS O Jay. The reserve champion
was Knowlstead El Ron Micki,
owned by Rhoda Knowlton of
Coudersport
In the Holstein, junior heifer calf
class, tirst place went to Robert

Lucy Leslie, owned by Jack
Thomas Jr. This cow was also the
top three-year-old. Jack’s junior
two-year-old, Hill Lea Modern
Disco, was reserve senior and
grand champion.

in the intermediate heifer calf

showing and fitting.

Grange sets legislative priorities

Wismer, Jr., Master of the Penn
sylvania State Grange, has an
nounced • his organization’s
legislative priorities tor the up
coming legislative session.
“First on our agenda for Sep
tember session, is passage ot
House Bill 1429, known as the
‘Noxious Weed Bill,” the Grange
leader said. “A number ot
agricultural groups have worked
together for many months to
prepare this piece ot legislation.
House Bill 1429 will declare the
troublesome multiflora rose a
Babe. Top three intermediate
showmen were: Mike Thompson
with Fhylene Eve Ester Charm
Cross; second, Jan Heisey,
Catelmn Jewel Jill and third, Neisa
Matthews, Irons Galaxy Dolly.
Senior showmanship awards went
to. Kathy Heisey, Catelmn Leader
Jennifer; Edward Cornell, Son-
Hose Billy Joe and Jack Thomas
Jr., Hill Lea Modern Disco.
Top three titters in the junior

Department of Agriculture instead
of through a lengthy legislative
process.”
A second priority, Wismer said,
is exempting manure structures on
farms from unfair real estate
taxes through Senate Bill 919 and
920, currently in the Senate Local
Government Committee.
“By the nature of his business,
the farmer has always earned the
burden on real estate taxes,” he
said. “Exemption for. manure
structures is one way to give him
some relief."
Wismer says his organization
will make a concentrated effort to
get these bills passed through the
legislature when it reconvenes in
September.
