CARLISLE The auctioneers’s yodel rang out Tuesday evening at the Carlisle Livestock Market, beginning the 19814-H Swine Sale. Dave Shultz, Mechanicsburg, was first on the sale ticket with his 225 pound grand champion hog of the 4-H roundup. The bidding began on the champion $2.00- $2.50-S3.OD and the Country Butcher Shop Plainfield, closed the highest bid of the sale at $3.25. The 190 pound reserve 4-H champion hog owned by Glenn Fmkenbmder, Carlisle, was next in the sale ring. Hatfield Packing Co., Country Butcher Shop and Wayne Craig kept the bidding lively for this reserve champion with the fmal nod coming from Hatfield Packing Co. for $1.90. Hatfield Packing Co. showed no reservation in the bidding arena as they heartily continued to nod-m their bids for the champion pen of three hogs owned by 4-H’er Steve Otto, Carlisle, at 70 cents and the champions pen of two owned by Cindy Otto, Carlisle, at 65 cents. Throughout the 4-H hog sale prices stayed 5 to 10 cents above the open market price with the lowest sale ticket marked for 50 cents a pound. Eugene Wmgert, regional director of the Department ot Agriculture judged the contest. Selected as the senior champion showman was Brad Fickes, Newville. In the intermediate competition, Raymond Motter, Newville, was the champion and Tammy Burruss was the champion junior showman. The fitting contest followed with Karen Fought, Carlisle, awarded the trophy as the' champion in termediate fitter of the show. Crowned champion junior fitter was Kim Warner of Carlisle. Fickes Silo, Inc., Newville, presented the trophies of the showing and fitting contest to the five outstanding individuals. Project awards were presented based upon the following scores, fitting, showmanship, type of animal and complete project books.
