A22—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 22,1981 Woodson Farm takes Black and White honors LANSDALE - Woodson Yoho Samson Emaliane, the aged cow entry of Roderick Wood, Penn sburg, was named Grand Champion Female and Semor Champion at the Montgomery County Holstein Club Show on Monday. The 5-year-old champion whose ancestors trace as far back in the Woodson breeding program as 1916, is sired by Winterthur Prince Select Yoho and out of Woodson Samson Bright Emmy. Bred to Bootmaker, the champion is due to freshen next spring. According to Wood, her present lactation is estimated to be the best. She is expected to finish with 22,550 lbs. milk and 976 lbs. fat. Wood also took another cham pion back to his Penns burg farm on Monday. Woodson Astro Rorae Helena was chosen by judge Sam Acker as Junior Champion. The senior yearling, owned by Harry Wood, 11, is an Astronaut daughter out of Woodson Rorae Yoho Hecuba. After more than 70 Holstems were exhibited on the cool summer day, Woodson Farm, a familiar prefix to Holstein breeders, recieved the Premier Exhibitor and Breeder banners. “We probably have one of the oldest continuous preixes in the state,” said Rod Wood. He is assisted by wife Wendy the 1981 Montgomery show chairman, and son lan, 7, as well as two em ployees. Wood explained the Woodson operation, geared toward developing purebred animals, recieves 30 percent of annual in come from heifer sales. Freddy-Hill Farms of Lansdale was also well represented on Monday. Fred Seipt’s aged cow E- Bert Complete Softy took home Reserve Champion honors. The 7- year-old Black and White is sired by Paclamar Triune Complete and out of E-Bert Paragon Samson Sally. The Seipt’s VG-88 has a top record of 20,743 lbs. of milk, 868 lbs. of fat and 4.2 percent test. Judge Acker chose Telford dairyman Michael Halteman’s junior heifer as Reserve Junior Champion. Halteman’s Indianvale Marvex Lollipop, a Marvex daughter is out of Indianvale Performer Patty. Two Telford juniors were also honored. Thomas Halteman was chosen as Youngest Owner- Breeder and Jonathan Keener was named top Junior Showman. Marcia Slater, PerkiomenviUe, was second best showman at the event.
