BY DEBBIE KOONTZ
LANCASTER Eleven Lancaster
County 4-H’ers certainly had cause
to celebrate last Thursday as they
were chosen winners of the Lan
caster “Celebrate” Fashion Show
at the Farm and Home Center,
here.
These girls were then eligible to
attend the Capital Region 4-H
Revue in Messiah College,
Grantham, this week.
Attending the regional revue
were; Sue Rohrer, Lancaster;
Nancy Mays, Lancaster;
Stephanie Schaich, Lititz; Rhonda
Witmer, Lititz; Lisa Blevins,
Quarry ville; Deanne Myers,
Ephrata; Jennie Phillips, New
Holland; and Donna Rohrer,
Lancaster, in the senior division, 14
years of age and over.
Three members from the junior
division, under 14 years old, also
attended. They are Lucinda
Harmsh, Willow Street; Susan
Kraft, Ephrata; and Amy Zim
merman, Blue Ball.
Amongst the color and
pageantry of banners and ballons,
the 4-H members, winners and
others, modeled their outfits,
skirts, and blouses. The winners
were selected by judges to have the
best display of sewing skills and
knowledge
Each girl in sewing 4-R has the
opportunity to progress to the
fashion show by taking part year
after year in designated sewing
projects.
The girls who participated in this
show were sporting a number of
fashion articles from wool skirts to
independent projects such as
evening gowns and jogging outifts.
Along with increasing their skills
in clothing construction, they
learned about wardrobe selection,
color coordination, posture,
physical fitness and grooming
during their project work.
The revue, coordinated by
Michelle Rodgers, Extension home
economist, and 4-H leaders, was a
day long event featuring
workshops on modeling by Audrey
Hoover, blouses by Virginia Kloss
and a special presentation for
participants and guests by Rosalia
Smith, textile coordinator at the
Pennsylvania Farm Museum.
Winners of the regional fashion
revue will attend the state revue,
scheduled to be held at Penn State
in August. Judges will select an
Honors Group of eight finalists.
These eight 4-H’ers will compete
for the top state award, part of
which is an expense-paid trip to the
National 4-H Congress in Chicago,
November 28 to December 3. '
