Cl6—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, July 25,1981 Seven 4-H'ers sew their may to top honors BY DEBBIE KOONTZ LANCASTER Eleven Lancaster County 4-H’ers certainly had cause to celebrate last Thursday as they were chosen winners of the Lan caster “Celebrate” Fashion Show at the Farm and Home Center, here. These girls were then eligible to attend the Capital Region 4-H Revue in Messiah College, Grantham, this week. Attending the regional revue were; Sue Rohrer, Lancaster; Nancy Mays, Lancaster; Stephanie Schaich, Lititz; Rhonda Witmer, Lititz; Lisa Blevins, Quarry ville; Deanne Myers, Ephrata; Jennie Phillips, New Holland; and Donna Rohrer, Lancaster, in the senior division, 14 years of age and over. Three members from the junior division, under 14 years old, also attended. They are Lucinda Harmsh, Willow Street; Susan Kraft, Ephrata; and Amy Zim merman, Blue Ball. Amongst the color and pageantry of banners and ballons, the 4-H members, winners and others, modeled their outfits, skirts, and blouses. The winners were selected by judges to have the best display of sewing skills and knowledge Each girl in sewing 4-R has the opportunity to progress to the fashion show by taking part year after year in designated sewing projects. The girls who participated in this show were sporting a number of fashion articles from wool skirts to independent projects such as evening gowns and jogging outifts. Along with increasing their skills in clothing construction, they learned about wardrobe selection, color coordination, posture, physical fitness and grooming during their project work. The revue, coordinated by Michelle Rodgers, Extension home economist, and 4-H leaders, was a day long event featuring workshops on modeling by Audrey Hoover, blouses by Virginia Kloss and a special presentation for participants and guests by Rosalia Smith, textile coordinator at the Pennsylvania Farm Museum. Winners of the regional fashion revue will attend the state revue, scheduled to be held at Penn State in August. Judges will select an Honors Group of eight finalists. These eight 4-H’ers will compete for the top state award, part of which is an expense-paid trip to the National 4-H Congress in Chicago, November 28 to December 3.
