The Lipizzaners are well-known because of their superb per formances in the famous Spanish Riding School in Vienna, whose aim is the cultivation of the classical equestrian art at its' highest level. The school was named because only horses of Spanish descent were used in the training. Today only Lipizzaners carry on the tradition which dates from the mid-1500’s. . Only stallions which, excell in performance at the Spanish Riding School are used in breeding. Judy Westenhoefer believes that Tempel Smith maintained the integrity'of the breed at his Illinois farm. .While the horses were an outright gift, keeping a horse is no small matter. Carol expressed appreciation to Dr. and Mrs. Harold Robbins who have agreed Take extra when packing food SOUTHAMPTON - With summer here, many of us will heed the call of the open road and either go camping or take an auto trip. Whether it is a long or short trip, says Dairy Council Inc., Southampton, it is especially important to remember how to plan and pack take-along food items. A simple guideline to follow is: if a food must be refrigerated at home, it must be kept cold outside the refrigerator. Some foods might cause problems: pre-cooked foods; uncooked meats, fish and poultry; and anything containing eggs and dairy products. Keep all these foods at 40 degrees or below until time to serve them. For long trips, an ice chest is preferable because a cooler doesn’t provide as much insulation. An ice chest is a metal or heavy plastic container with a tight-fitting lid. A cooler is made of plastic foam. Pack perishable foods last. Take them straight from the refrigerator to the ice chest. You can pack foods in crushed ice or Introducing The SCANOEI CANOE SALE! 3 SIZES AVAILABLE: 13', 15' AND 17' CHECK OUR PRICES ON ALL COLEMAN ITEMS ■BS@3 COLEMAN CENTER 89 Old Leacock Rd. The excitement and glamour of having lipizzaner horses used in the program cannot overshadow its primary'purpose • to provide enjoyment and therapy for han dicapped persons of any age. Mary Anne articulates her en thusiasm for the program, “I enjoy taking something I love, like horses, and making them productive.” Taking the Lipizzaners and turning their fine innate abilities into a productive experience for the handicapped riders is the challenge now facing the pregram. All the volunteers are looking forward to the day when the Lipizzaners will be in use every Friday, using their skills and beauty to provide the thrill of a horseback ride to participants in the therapeutic riding program. precaution “canned ice,” a non-water liquid that can be frozen ahead of time, then placed in the ice chest. This item gives off no moisture as it melts, and it can be refrozen. You can freeze meats or poultry and use them as ice blocks. If frozen solid, chicken parts will defrost in an ice chest in a day or two; ground beef and steak will defrost in a day. To make packing easier, pack anything that might be damaged by water in the chest or in the rain in moisture-proof bags or containers. Empty cottage cheese cartons are excellent for this purpose. If you want to take eggs along, another point to remember is to break the eggs into a plastic container, seal it and keep it cold. When breakfast time arrives, add milk and seasonings and stir in the container. On a journey of several days, you should check the ice level each evening. Drain the water from the chest every night. The only accurate way to tell if your ice chest is 40 degrees or below is to take along a ther mometer. UNCASTER old LEACOCK RD. tih- jAO INTERr.ni mcc / LEACOCK COLEMAN <i*- CENTER
