A2B—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, June 13,1981 Chester farmers’ WEST CHESTER - “Farmers should read the fine print before signing away the mineral rights to their property,” Ed Taczanowsky, Region I field director, told directors of the Chester County Farmers’ Association at thier monthly meeting, Wednesday evening at Highland Orchards. “With higher energy prices,” Taczanowsky said, “oil and gas exploration is expanding into the eastern part of Pennsylvania. Farmers should be aware than many printed leases leave no choices to the farmer as to when and where drilling would be done. Access roads may cut across planted fields. Reestablishment of pastures, meadows and crops may be minimal.” Taczanowsky recommended that the Farmers’ Association establish an energy committee in the county to work with fanners before they sign leases. “Farmers in other counties are grouping together to obtain higher lease fees and preferred treat ment. Chester County Farmers’ Association should take the lead in alerting not only Association members but other farmers as well, as to the many possibilities.” Taczanowksy concluded. Directors also heard from Portia Breckbill, Oxford, chairmanjof the Women’s Committee; Art Her shey, Cochranville, Region I state director; Barclay Hoopes, Lan denberg, vice-chairman of the SMUCXErS SUES SERVICE, UK.
