Made up primarily of western Pennsylvania Grange members, the committee met for the first tune on Monday at Clarion. Speaking to the group was Charles Weber, professor of Geology and Planning at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. According to Boyer, this was an informational session where im proving the Grange’s legal service and information plans regarding oil and gas leasing were discussed. Weber advised the group to tell Grange members contemplating a gas or oil contract not to lease the gas and oil because they are not replaceable. They must contract to sell, while insuring their water and land are protected, he said. For Grange members and others who are having trouble with gas and oil companies destroying land and water quality, Weber recommended they contact the state’s Soil and Water Con servation Commission or the Fish Commission. According to Boyer, the Grange advisory committee will disseminate information con cerning gas and oil leasing and will provide a legal referral system to help farmers and members. Maim
